It’s Wildlife Conservation Day!

We are so proud of the number of Biodiversity Action Plan (2007) species we have attracted to Elmore Court Estate through our Rewilding efforts on the land.

Wildlife belongs to our countryside and it is a pleasure to provide a safe haven and support it here.

We are celebrating our first confirmed otter sighting! These mammals are notoriously hard to spot, but we found tracks and set up a trail camera. They are such a pleasure to have on our land and will be continue to marvel at their beauty while respecting their space.

🦉🔬 Owls are incredible hunters, but they can’t digest everything they eat. Instead, they regurgitate what’s left behind — compact bundles called owl pellets. These contain the indigestible parts of their prey (mice, vole, shrew, frogs etc) such as bones, teeth, fur, and feathers. By carefully dissecting pellets, scientists and ecologists can learn which species an owl has eaten and even track changes in local ecosystems over time. Here at Elmore Court, we’re we have three species of owl, each producing their own unique pellets that offer fascinating clues about their diets and the biodiversity around us. 🌍🪶

Bidding Summer Farewell in a Treehouse

As the sun’s warmth softens and the days gently shorten, picture yourself perched high in a beautifully crafted treehouse, where summer’s last golden glow lingers longest.

Imagine this…

You’ve spent the day immersed in the sounds and stillness of the rewilding land. As evening arrives, you step onto the deck, settle into a snooze chair wrapped in a soft blanket, and sip a cool glass of wine. The sky paints itself in shades of amber and rose across the wetlands below.

The copper bath beckons, warm water shimmering in the fading light. Steam rises in the cool air; the first stars begin to wink into existence. Nearby, the fire pit glows with welcoming warmth. Inside awaits a wood burner, plush cushions, and soft robe, your own sanctuary as night falls.

It’s at once luxuriously peaceful and profoundly connected, to the land, the landscape, and the slowing pulse of the season.

Here in the canopy, summer’s last light becomes a memory wrapped in stillness, warmth, and wonder.

Can you spot the butterfly—camouflaged among the grasses, just a flicker of gold against the green? There’s a particular kind of magic in noticing the small things—especially when those small things are rare and difficult to spot!

A few days ago, whilst visiting the meadows at Elmore Court, naturalist, spotted something extraordinary: a Clouded Yellow butterfly.

The Clouded Yellow (Colias croceus) is one of Britain’s rare migratory butterflies. Not a resident, but a visitor—drifting in from southern Europe or North Africa when the winds and seasons allow. Some years, you might be lucky enough to spot one or two. Other years, none at all.

To see one is a gift.

To see one here, in our own wild corner of Gloucestershire, is quite a miracle.

Unlike many of our native butterflies, the Clouded Yellow doesn’t often pause long. It’s a restless traveller, always moving, always chasing warmth. It will flicker between blooms, golden wings folding and unfolding like a heartbeat. And then, just as quickly as it arrived, it will disappear again.

Moments like these remind us why we care so much about this land—why rewilding matters, why the wildflowers matter, why slowing down and paying attention matters. Nature always has something to show us, if we’re still enough to notice.

Keep your eyes open. The extraordinary often arrives quietly.

🦉 What a Hoot - It’s Owl Awareness Day! 🦉

Today we’re celebrating the silent, mysterious, and utterly magical residents of Elmore: the owls. ✨

From the ghostly glide of barn owls across our meadows, to the cheeky stare of little owls peeking from hollow trees, these feathered hunters are vital to our ecosystems—and quietly disappearing.

Here on our rewilding land, we’re doing our best to give them a safe haven:

🌾 Pesticide-free fields
🌳 Hollow trees left for nesting
🪶 Healthy food chains with plenty of mice, vole and shrew to eat

These owls aren’t just beautiful, they’re indicators of a thriving ecosystem. And their future depends on how we care for the land.
