CELEBRATION OF LIFE POST 🌈

A few weeks ago, I was devastated to hear that our beautiful boy, Finley, has crossed over the rainbow bridge. πŸ˜πŸ’”

I was only introduced to Finley in March this year but I was lucky enough to be able to take him on a few lovely little walks πŸ₯°πŸŒ³πŸŒ»

This beautiful, little man was 15 years old when he fell asleep 🌈 He was full of personality, loyal, loving, gentle and he loved to explore all of the different smells on his walks (with plenty of treats!). When I met him, I couldn't believe he was 15 - aside from his youthful looks, he was quite active and still had a lot of enthusiasm to go outside and explore. After he passed, I was able to have a catch-up with Finley's lovely mum, who told me some funny stories about him being a cheeky chappie when he was a puppy.

My heart goes out to Finley's family & friends at this difficult time. No matter how much time our best friends are with us, it is never enough when we love them as we do. Fly high, Prince Finley πŸͺ½ 🩡

Had a ball last week with Miss Yoyo πŸ₯°
Too hot for walkies so we played in the paddling pool instead. Yoyo has a patio (because a superstrong mutant mole came and dug multiple holes in their back garden - Yoyo had nothing to do with it πŸ˜‡) and I was worried that the patio might be too hot. I decided to take my shoes off to experience what she would feel. Luckily, at one point, she tried to climb into the paddling pool awkwardly and managed to spill out half of the water. There patio cooled right down so we were laughing πŸ˜‚ I got into the water with her too, which was super fun (and needed! πŸ”₯). After playtime, a big drink of water & cuddles indoors ❀️

We had a play for a few minutes with the ball but we had to abandon that game as he started to eat it πŸ˜…

But I was lucky to get some lovely cuddles outside before it became too warm πŸ’™

It's that time of year again! 🌞 It has been for quite a while but this week's temperatures are crazy hot for the UK. I know I'm preaching to the choir here but on the off-chance someone who is unaware of this comes across my page, I think it's worth posting about.

Each dog I walk has a different & approximate 'cut-off temperature' for walks depending on age, breed, fur colour, willingness to slow down/drink water on the walk etc. I also look for any signs of uncomfortability/behaviour changes etc. If I'm unsure, I will always air on the side of caution. In these temperatures, walks should be short and very early in the day. Ground temperature also needs to be taken into consideration (if it is 23 degrees early, the ground will be cooler than 23 degrees in the afternoon). Different surfaces retain more heat - for example, artificial grass is hotter than natural grass & asphalt is a no-go. Dogs cannot be left in cars or vans even if the window is down. If left for an extremely short period of time, air-conditioning needs to be on/working fans.

I'm seeing a lot of comments this year on posts saying 'Well...how do dogs walk in hot countries then?' Firstly, acclimatisatuon. Secondly, they are walked very early or very late in shaded, grassy areas with access to water. There is a reason why some countries have a siesta during the hottest part of the day. Thirdly, some dogs abroad have special booties to protect their paw pads from the heat. Finally, hot countries have proper indoor air conditioning for them to cool down after a short walk. This is not something the UK is generally equipped with considering the fact that it rains for the majority of the year. πŸ˜…

It is understandable that some dogs need to go outside for a toilet break. Little Yoyo decided that she would not have a wee wee in her back garden today so I took her for a walk all the way to... her front garden to do it 🀣 Last year, Mr Kylo, who is a Frenchie, would not have a wee in his back garden. It was 22 degrees, which I did not feel comfortable walking him properly in. The ground was cool so I walked him approximately 15 metres to a patch of grass and back. I saw a woman glaring at me from across the street. I turned to Kylo and said loudly, "Come on, Son - you can have a wee there and then straight back to your house. It's too hot for you." However, this didn't stop her from hurling abuse at me. Due to experiences like this, I am always mindful (at temperatures such as 23/24 degrees) that a dog may be having a very short toilet break.

But this week, temperatures are reaching 34 degrees. At this temperature, walkies are an absolute no-go for any dog. Bring on the house visits, front garden wee wee trips and paddling pools! πŸ˜‚

Keep them cool, keep them hydrated, keep them inside.❀️

CELEBRATION OF LIFE POST 🌈

I'm not quite sure how to write this post. Nothing I write will ever do her justice.

Our dear beautiful Frankie crossed over the rainbow bridge on Thursday, one month shy of her eleventh birthday, surrounded by her family and friends at home. Her lovely mum, Claire, asked me if I would like to be there when she crossed. Whilst I knew that this would be an upsetting time, Frankie was my friend and it was an absolute privilege to be with her in her final moments. She went peacefully and, in true Frankie fashion, she was wagging her tail until she fell asleep. Frankie was diagnosed with Lymphoma almost two years ago. She fought hard and managed to live a full life until a few weeks ago when it became too much. I know many of you will be upset by this news. A lot of you knew Frankie. She always managed to make people smile from ear to ear. And Frankie herself, lived each day positively despite her diagnosis, finding the joy in each day - something she has inspired me to do.

When I started Hollywoof Hills a few years ago, Frankie was my first ever customer. I fell in love with her straight away and luckily, she seemed to like me a lot too! After a little while, Claire, started to refer to me as Frankie's 'Bestie' - a title I took proudly. Frankie was born in New Zealand. She was a rescue and met mum, Claire when she was young. After several years, Claire came back over here and brought her soul dog, Frankie, with her. That's when we met. As a dog walker, dogs are never just 'customers' , they inevitably become family and Frankie was (and will always be) definitely family. ❀️

I do absolutely everything I can to distance myself from "it's just a dog" people. No, they are never 'just dogs'. They feel so many emotions - people just do not take the time to understand how these are expressed. Even dogs, who have been mistreated in the past, still find a way to put their trust in humans. That trust, to me, is pure love. They never lie or judge and they are individuals, full of personality. I'd like to end this post by telling you all about Frankie's.πŸ₯°

Frankie had the most infectious smile (as is evident from the photographs). She was my photography muse - I would say I discovered a love of photography mainly through her. This won't be the last you will see of her - I will be continuing to post her adorable face.😁

Frankie loved nature and she loved a sniffy walk.🌳

Frankie was a water baby. As soon as she was close to water, she would suddenly become like a puppy and she was just pure joy. πŸ’§πŸ€ͺ

Frankie loved a stink roll. Once when I took her to the beach, she managed to find the only bit of wet, clay-like sand along the whole beach and cover every inch of her white fur in it. Frankie refused to let me use my portable shower so I needed to wash Frankie in her Nanny Vera's shower. 🐾

Frankie loved to play with a ball. Getting the ball back off her was a challenge though as she just wanted to squash it with her mouth when she caught it. πŸ₯Ž

Frankie was stubborn. Many times she took me back to a car that she insisted was mine and refused to move. Once she did a p**p but would not walk to the bin with me so I needed to transport it with us in the van to the bin. πŸ’©

Frankie was a cuddle bug. She loved a nap next to her mum or nanny. She also snored. πŸ’€

Frankie liked to chase small animals. Luckily, we all had our heads on swivels so she never caught them.πŸΏπŸ‡

Frankie loved men and was a huge flirt. She also loved treats. I'm not sure which she loved more. 😎

Frankie liked to dig holes when she was excited, doing her best to make her way to the Earth's core. 🌎

Frankie made everyone smile. Whenever I brought Frankie to my estate, several of the children would shout 'Frankie' and come to give her some fuss. 😍

Frankie hated her feet being touched. Once I touched one accidentally and she looked at me like I'd ruined her life. 🦢

Frankie had lots of friends. Her friends in New Zealand asked Mum about her regularly. πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ

Frankie loved water but it wasn't allowed to rain heavily without her permission. If it did, she would pull me back to a car that wasn't mine insisting we take cover there. 🌧

Frankie was full of love. πŸ€— Love you, Frankie - fly high, gorgeous girl 🌈 πŸͺ½ πŸ• πŸ’œ

Welcome, Freddie! πŸ’™
Now I won't be seeing this handsome chap very often as he already has a fabulous dog walker (the lovely Sarah from Watson's Walkies πŸ₯°). Sarah, who I met on a dog walk surprisingly enough πŸ˜‚, introduced me to Freddie when he needed a few extra walks when she was away. He was such a good boy & a pleasure to take out! Here are some pictures of him running through the fields & striking a pose in Rivacre Valley 😎🩡

I've not seen this cheeky spud for a while as he's busy smashing his new role of Best Big Brother πŸ’ͺ but I do miss that squishy face πŸ˜˜πŸ’™
