I caught abuse for keeping my Rottweiler lean as a pup.
People said he looked “underfed.”
They wanted him chunky, I wanted him healthy.

Here’s the truth:
❌ A fat puppy is NOT a healthy puppy.
✅ Lean growth means less pressure on developing joints, bones, and growth plates.

Every extra kilo on a young pup = extra stress on soft, forming structures that are supposed to last a lifetime.
That “cute chunk” you see waddling around? They’re laying the foundations for arthritis, hip/elbow dysplasia, and pain before they even reach middle age.

I chose the harder path. I took the comments, the criticism, the side-eye from people who didn’t understand. Because I wasn’t raising a puppy for Instagram likes I was raising a dog for life.

Fast forward: my boy moves with power, works with ease, and lives pain-free.
No regrets.

Who won?
The dog who can actually move, work, and thrive into old age.

Spoiler: it’s not the fat pups. 🐕🔥

He’s always got to put his massive head on me, just a big puppy at heart.

Sorry there’s not much activity here these days, I’m still not back to work yet. I’m still waiting for a liver biopsy to find out whether I have an autoimmune disease or not and a few other tests to rule out other things. I still have some good days where I’m not in too much pain or feeling too ill, those days are getting less frequent now it seems but I’ve got my boy Odin to keep me going.
Can’t tell you how much of a lifeline this dog is to me right now, there’s days where I can barely get up to do anything for myself but he keeps me moving, he gets me out the house (except the days I need my son to help) and because of his breed he keeps me active in the house as well...his needs don’t stop because I’m ill. I still have a dog that will sleep 18 hours a day, he is mostly calm except when we have visitors (he doesn’t see his people very often) but that I don’t mind as long as everything else remains the same.

Hopefully these tests are done soon and the docs get me well again so I can get back to doing what I love the most…it’s been far too long!

I was watching a video on Denise Fenzi’s page, her dog was dookin (bobbing) for balls but he was wearing a face guard. It’s to protect him from foxtails which I thought was a brilliant idea for those dogs that love to run through the long grass.

You’ll need to measure for the best fit although there is a breed guide as well and was accurate for Odin when I measured him, instructions are there but it’s easy enough…just measure from tip of the nose to the base of the skull.

Here’s the website if you want to check it out:

The OutFox Field Guard is a patented, vinyl-coated mesh mask designed to protect your dogs eyes, ears, nose, and mouth from foxtails and grass seeds. Once comfortably placed on your dog, the Field Guard protects against foxtails and costly vet bills.
