A good run out at Hopetoun yesterday 👏🏼 We were first to go in our section so a very early start. A nice dressage (if a little too chilled) rewarded with a 30.3. Haven’t seen my sheet yet so unsure of comments but it had felt really nice to so will be good to know what we need to work on before Blair. We were then first to go in the showjumping and thankfully got the class off to a good start going clear. Onto XC - I decided to let Atty go at a more chilled pace and let him do the thinking in relation to finding which strides he wants to go off of rather than me rallying him round. We sailed round with no issues and just 1.6 time penalties which I wasn’t too bothered about seeing as he’d had such a good learning run. We ended up finishing 5th in a strong section 🥳 That’s the last run before Blair so it’s now all about the final prep before the big weekend! Massive thanks to .spoon for being top groom/photographer/video extraordinaire - just look at some of the photos she managed to get 🥺

Best boy pinging round the SJ at Glamis yesterday. The castle is the perfect backdrop 🏰 Also, how smart does he look in his saddle cloth - looking forward to having Robyn back out in a couple of weeks for a check up ☺️

Sometimes very good, sometimes very s**t 🤷🏽‍♀️ Today wasn’t our day at Glamis - horses are a great leveller! Started off great with 30 dressage in a harshly marked section to leave us sitting 3rd after dressage. He was pinging round the showjumping and we got to the last fence and I couldn’t decide to let him take a flier or hold for a short…so I did nothing at all of much value (good one, Steph) so he flattened and took the last one down - bu**er 🤦🏽‍♀️ Still, these things happen…so onto XC! It seemed a real nice course and I wasn’t too phased by any fences walking it so got a bit complacent. Came round to fence 7 (offset upright rales) on a terrible line and as we locked on to the (b) element I realised I’d either have to let him take a flier or check him up. So went with the check but held too much with my right hand so he went flying past it on the left - once again, bu**er! Represented, flew it and tanked home (7s under the too fast time 😬). Kicking myself for not being sharper on my riding but it’s so easy to play ‘what ifs’ - “what if I’d gone double clear, I’d have finished 2nd (and qualified for Badminton)” or “what if we didn’t have the run out, I’d have finished 6th” but that’s just the way eventing goes and you can’t do well all of the time! Got to take the good with the not so good - they’re animals, not machines and sometimes we have off days too and let them down 🤷🏽‍♀️ Onto Hopetoun in a couple of weeks and then the big one at Blair (I’m hoping we manage to bag our golden Badminton ticket there 🤞🏼). Lovely seeing some friends today do so well - a massive congrats to you all 👏🏼🥳 Plus a massive thanks to for coming along today and being the best groom - think you might have found a new fave sport?! ❤️

Snowy Saturday hacks ❄️ Up and out early with Ross and Catriona and Marco for a nice longer wander round the Bush. Then out with Atty for a short solo hack before it got too dark. So thankful that the roads around us had been gritted because lockdown fever is starting to set in with the school frozen and nothing to do 😬 Those blue skies made for a great day exploring with the boys 👏🏼

2020 roundup 👀

I haven’t got round to doing a New Year post yet on here as been having some downtime but seeing as this is the last day of my holiday I thought it was about time...2020 was a really odd year but still lots of lovely things to come from it...

Ross - Ross competed his first proper season at BE stepping up from 80 to 90 and finishing with his best ever score on his last run of the year at Alnwick Ford. He also started affiliated dressage with BD and has qualified for the Winter Area Festival for both Prelim and Novice. On top of all that we managed to get out to some riding club events/camp and made a few new great friends along the way ( 🙋🏽‍♀️).

Atlas - this was Atty’s first season under saddle. We attended our first dressage show and some unaffiliated jumping. He also managed to win some red rosettes along the way. I’m so proud of how he’s coming along - he’s such a special horse.

Apollo and Arlo - 2020 brought with it the arrival of Apollo and Arlo. They brought so much joy even through some hard times. They also managed to both score gold premiums at the futurity. Excited for both of their futures!

All in all 2020 wasn’t a total write off but I’m hoping we’ll have more of a ‘normal’ year in 2021. I’m going to try and do a lot of training over the rest of winter and early spring to try and set the horses up nicely for the 2021 season (hoping my dressage and sj lessons won’t be cancelled due to the snow/ice 🤞🏼). Wishing all of you a great 2021 whether that be out competing or just enjoying your horses at home 🥰

A very wet day in Edinburgh today and some very soggy horses ☔️ Was having some regrets over not entering Kirrie BE but after I’ve seen the weather today I’m glad I decided not to! I hope all our friends competing there today had a good day out despite the tragic weather! That’s the mares and foals in for the night to avoid the worst of the rain 💦
