Next up from our veterinary nursing team is Bec! ✨

Bec has been a registered veterinary nurse since 2017, and has been at the practice since 2015. 🐾 She has 4 cats: Ed, Nancy, Norma and Percy! 🐈
Bec has recently completed further training which has given her the skills to carry out schedule 3 procedures, including; suturing wounds, and scaling and polishing teeth.

Here you can see Bec performing a post operative check on a cat recovering from a procedure. One of the important roles of a registered veterinary nurse is to take care of and monitor hospitalised patients following surgical procedures, and provide medical management of poorly pets under the advice of our vets👩‍⚕️

Is your pet in pain? Here’s what to look out for! 🐾

Pets can’t tell us when they’re hurting, so it’s up to us to spot the signs. Some common clues include:

🔹 Changes in behaviour – Is your pet more withdrawn or grumpy?
🔹 Unusual movement – Limping, stiffness, or difficulty getting up could mean discomfort.
🔹 Eating less – A loss of appetite can be a sign something’s wrong.
🔹 Excessive grooming – Constant licking or chewing one area? They might be soothing a sore spot.
🔹 Hiding or avoiding contact – If they suddenly don’t want to be touched or seem distant, it’s worth checking out.

If you notice any of these, don’t wait. Book a vet check-up to keep your pet happy and healthy.

First up from our nursing team is Nichola, one of our deputy head veterinary nurses!

Nichola has been a veterinary nurse for over 20 years and enjoys all aspects of her job. She is a clinical coach, which means that she trains student veterinary nurses.
Nichola regularly visits local primary schools to talk about all things veterinary! 🐇🐕🐈

One of the roles of a registered veterinary nurse is monitoring anaesthesia. Here you can see Nichola in theatre with vet Tom. 👩‍⚕️

We’re expecting some hot weather this week. If it feels warm to you, it’s even hotter for your dog.

Skipping a walk is always the safer choice when it’s too hot. No dog has ever been harmed by missing one, but heatstroke can be deadly.
