Next in the A to Z Breed Series

E is for English Springer Spaniel 🐾

Energetic, intelligent, and always ready for adventure, English Springer Spaniels are known for their friendly nature and boundless enthusiasm.

Their medium-length coat with feathering needs regular brushing to prevent tangles, especially around the ears, legs, and chest.

Some can be short on the body with longer furnishings on legs and chest, perfect for a tidy up while others can have a thick coat all over and can be clipped shorter. Either way a nice groom every 8 weeks can keep hair and skin in good condition 🐶✨

Disney Dog incoming 🐶🥰

This very good boy Herbert came to see me and filled my whole morning today! ✂️🚿

What do we think to his summer haircut? 🌞 Not perfect but a starting point for future grooms 🤗

Post groom chill out in the bed too 💤 such a pretty boy 📷

☀️ DID YOU KNOW? ☀️

“Shorter = cooler” isn’t always true when it comes to dog grooming.
✨ AIR FLOW is key! ✨

A dog’s coat does far more than help regulate temperature — it also helps protect the skin from:
🐾 UV rays
🐾 Environmental irritants & allergens
🐾 Heat exposure

The skin also contains specialised immune cells called Langerhans cells, which help defend against irritation and environmental damage.

❗️For many coat types, repeatedly clipping the coat extremely short can reduce that natural protection and leave the skin more exposed over time and cause damage to these immunity cells.

That’s why summer grooming shouldn’t always mean shaving everything off ✂️

My goal during the hotter weather is to buck the trend of “short for summer” and instead encourage proper coat management for long-term coat and skin health.

Routine:
🐾 Brushing,
🐾Deshedding,
🐾Coat maintenance:
all help improve airflow through the coat — which is one of the most important parts of temperature regulation — while still maintaining enough length to protect the skin and support overall coat health 🐾

✨ Mutney's Magic Monday: New Tool Edition ✨

My most recent addition to the grooming kit has been a Coat Tender… and WOW has it quickly become one of my favourite tools! 🤩

It works similarly to a hand stripping knife in the way it grips and removes dead coat, but the handle sits underneath rather than at the side like a traditional stripping knife — making it ergonomic, familiar and comfortable to use 🙌

Perfect for smoothing out spay coat, tackling fluffy spaniel coat, helping with desheds, and it doesn’t cut the coat in any way 🐾

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+ no notes. Every groomer needs one in their kit for stripping or deshedding!

Grooming gal pals ✂️Now guurls - she's spenny but dont let it put you off! She will be a worthwhile investment to your grooming kit!

Well hot dawg… it’s a scorcher! ☀️🐶

Not to sound like every other pet professional on your feed right now — but you know your dog best and what they can cope with in this heat.

So instead I encourage you to make some tasty frozen treats with bone broth, pineapple and watermelon, grab some coconut water and if your dog is anything like mine: they will lap it up like it’s a five-star cocktail. 🥥🍸

Stay safe out there, friends 💛

Some hot weather tips from Wildwood Pets Stamford - remember small pets too

✂ The grooming cabin is air conditioned so your dogs will be groomed in cool comfort and may take a little longer in hot weather as dryers are set to cool air ❄️💨😌

🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

It's going to be a scorcher today! Up to 30 degrees apparently, so please be sensible with your pets!

🐕Don't walk dogs in the hottest parts of the day and don't leave them in the car!

🐇 Be vigilant with small animals in outside hutches as they can overheat very quickly, especially if they're small and in direct sun.

🟢 Move enclosures to shaded areas or position an umbrella over their hutch for shade, and remove plastic hides as they can become "greenhouses" and get to life threatening temperatures.

🧊Provide extra water bottles and change water regularly as warm water is bad for their tummies and the bottle harbours bacteria.

🟢 Add slate or ceramic tiles for them to lay on in their cage.

🟢 Think about cats and leave accessible water for those roaming around. They can also use cooling mats at home.

🍦 We are well stocked with frozen treats, cooling toys, coats and mats so pop in and get sorted for the heat ☀️

Next in the A to Z Breed Series

D is for Dachshund 🐾

Small in size but big in personality, Dachshunds are curious, bold, and famously stubborn (in the best way!).

They come in three coat types:
🐶 Smooth – sleek, short coat with 'low not no' grooming needs
🐶 Long-haired – soft, flowing coat that needs regular brushing to prevent tangles
🐶 Wire-haired – coarse coat that benefits from hand stripping or specialist grooming

No matter the coat type, nail care is especially important for Dachshunds due to their low-to-the-ground build 🐾✨
