How do you know your dog will actually get along with the others?
One of the biggest concerns we hear is
“Will my dog be okay in a group?”
And honestly, those are exactly the right things to be thinking about. Because not every dog suits every group, and they shouldn’t have to.
When we’re building our groups, we’re looking at the dogs themselves, and certain factors like:
🐾 Energy levels
It’s not always about matching like for like. Some dogs benefit from calmer influences, others from a bit more movement. It’s about balance.
🐾 Temperament
How they feel around other dogs matters just as much as anything else. We also take into account any preferences or dislikes.
🐾 Breed specific traits
What a dog was bred for can influence how they move and interact in a group.
🐾 Behaviour
How they respond to situations and what they find challenging helps us decide what suits them best.
🐾 Age
We don’t just pair puppies with puppies, we make sure they have the right adult supervision, both four legged and two.
🐾 Play style
Some dogs want to interact, some prefer space, and some just want to get on with their walk.
🐾 Training level
This plays a big part. We often pair dogs with others who can help guide them, especially with things like recall.
And then comes the part most people don’t see…
🐾 Introductions are controlled and intentional
We take our time to see how dogs respond, rather than putting them straight into a group.
Because at the end of the day, the group chooses the dog.
It’s like us. If you don’t quite click with someone, you can find yourself tolerating rather than enjoying their company. And everyone deserves a group they feel comfortable in.
If a dog isn’t comfortable, we don’t force it. We adjust, reassess, or find a better fit. Because it’s not just about getting them out… it’s about making sure they actually enjoy it.
