Lily and Raisin alert
To all cat owners out there…
PLEASE PLEASE don’t allow your cats to go anywhere near any part of a Lily.
I received some heartbreaking news yesterday from a friend whose little 5 month old kitten had been the victim of some Lily pollen which he ingested by mistake. Unfortunately two days after being in contact with this Lily, he had to be euthanized due to kidney failure.
I cannot stress hard enough, how dangerous any part of a Lily is to our feline friends. Lillies are often included in bunches of flowers, which well meaning and caring friends and family often arrange to be delivered to your front door. If this is the case, please check every bouquet of flowers you receive and remove any lilies, which may be included in the arrangement irrespective of whether or not your cat is interested in a vase of flowers. Any part of a lily is toxic to cats (including a tiny speck of fallen pollen which they can pick up on their paws). RIP little Oreo. 😢
Along a similar vein, as we move towards the festive period, raisins are also toxic to cats, and even one ingested can cause severe illness to a cat. Please do not allow cats to sniff around mince pies, Christmas cake or Christmas pudding. We love our fur babies so much, and it is a sure fire away of ruining Christmas if you have to spend it at the vets trying to save their life.
Please pass this message onto anyone you know with cats (or dogs, as grapes/raisins are toxic for them too.)
Thank you
