How to teach kids to treat dogs with respect (and understand the Yellow Dog signal!) ⤵️

1. Always Ask First
Teach kids to always ask a dog owner’s permission before approaching, petting, or even standing near a dog. It builds respect and keeps everyone safe.

2. Know What Yellow Means
A dog wearing yellow (a lead, ribbon, vest, etc.) signals that they need space, maybe due to injury, anxiety, or training. Explain that yellow means “please give me room.”

3. Respectfully Engage from Afar
Instead of approaching, kids can:

💛 Wave from a distance
💛 Blow a friendly kiss
💛 Say something kind, all while keeping that vital space.

4. Why It Matters
This lesson teaches children compassion, responsibility, and the ability to read signals, raising mindful future pet lovers.

5. Handy Reminder Tools
Use Yellow Dog stickers on the fridge or in your car as visual cues, great for reinforcing the message and making “yellow means space” intuitive for kids.
