🐴 LEV ON TOUR at the Edenbridge & Oxted Show! 🎪

We will once again be at the show with members of our vet, nursing and office teams, so please come and find us at our stand and say hello! We will also have plenty of goodies with us 🎁🍬

A little reminder for anyone competing at the show: please don’t forget your horse’s passport and have a quick check that their vaccinations are all up to date. 👉 For full vaccination requirements and show rules, please visit the Edenbridge & Oxted Show website:
https://edenbridge-show.co.uk/show-competitions/rules-regulations/equestrian-rules-regulations

If you are due a booster or unsure whether your horse meets the requirements, please contact the clinic ASAP to book this week and we can check their vaccination history 🐎

These vaccination requirements are an important part of helping to keep all the horses attending the show healthy, particularly with the recent influenza outbreaks across the country.

We can’t wait to see you there! 💙

🫁 Equine asthma: recognising a flare-up 🫁

The recent spell of extremely warm and dry weather has led to a significant increase in the number of asthma flare-ups we are seeing at the clinic. Equine asthma can range from mild signs to severe episodes requiring urgent veterinary treatment!

‼️Signs to look out for include:

• Increased breathing rate or effort
• Flared nostrils
• Coughing or wheezing
• Noisy breathing
• Increased abdominal effort
• Reduced exercise tolerance or prolonged recovery

The videos below show the same mare during an acute asthma episode and then just 10 minutes after receiving emergency intravenous treatment. In the first video, you can see marked nostril flare, audible wheezing and increased respiratory effort. The second shows a huge improvement in her breathing, although she is not yet completely back to normal and will require continuous treatment.

If your horse is showing increased respiratory effort or appears to be struggling to breathe, please contact your vet promptly. Severe asthma flare-ups are an emergency! If you have any concerns about your horse’s breathing, please contact the clinic on 01342 300 008 ☎️

✨ A little award-winning news worth celebrating again! ✨

We’re still incredibly proud to have been recognised in the SME UK Enterprise Awards 2026, taking home:

🏆 Best Equine Veterinary Practice 2026 – South East England and Advanced Equine Care Excellence Award 2026 🏆

For our team, it’s about so much more than the trophies. It’s recognition of the knowledge, dedication and care that goes into looking after your horses every single day. 🐴❤️

And, of course, none of it would mean quite so much without the wonderful clients who put their trust in us!

Thank you for choosing Lingfield Equine Vets and for allowing us to be part of your horses’ care. We’re incredibly grateful — and very proud to be continuing our work across the South East.

🌡️💊Summer Medication Reminder 🌡️💊

With the warmer weather and holiday season upon us, it's worth taking a few moments to check the following
📋Are you keeping your medications at the correct temperature? Medications have a safe range of temperatures that they can be kept at. If they get too hot, it may reduce their efficacy.
📋Do you have enough medication - our current fulfilment times for prescriptions/medications can be up to 48 hours. Make sure you order in good time.
📋Do your horses have access to clean and fresh water? They will drink more during these higher temp spells

If you have any concerns, please call the office on 📞 01342 300008 or email 📧[email protected] we are here to help!

With temperatures set to rise this week we would just like to take the opportunity to remind clients below about advice and precautions to be taken through this week of sunshine ☀️

If you have any concerns about your horse or your appointment, please do call 01342 300008 to discuss

We hope you all have a warm and safe week! 💙

☀️ Heatwave update ☀️

🔥With the current heatwave warnings in place across the South of the UK this week, we wanted to update our clients on how we will be approaching appointments over the coming days.
Our motto is “Professional Service, Personalised Care” and that means recognising that every horse, owner and situation is different. Rather than taking a blanket approach, we will be assessing each case individually to ensure the welfare of both horses and people remains our priority.

📞 If you have an appointment booked and would feel more comfortable postponing it until temperatures ease, we completely understand. Please contact the office on 01342 300008 and we will be happy to discuss the options with you.

Similarly, there may be occasions where we contact clients directly if we feel an appointment or procedure is not appropriate to carry out in the forecast conditions. We will endeavour to give as much notice as possible should we need to rearrange an appointment. We will also not be performing any non-essential general anaesthetics during this period.

🌡️ We would encourage everyone to think carefully about their horses during the hottest parts of the day. Where possible, please avoid riding or travelling during peak temperatures, heat stroke can be fatal for both horses and riders and planning activities for the cooler morning or evening hours is the safest option.

🙏🏻 Finally, a gentle reminder to please be kind to your veterinary team. Our Vets and Nurses will be working throughout the heat to care for your horses and may occasionally need a few extra moments to cool down, rehydrate and continue working safely.
Thank you for your understanding and support. Please stay safe, keep cool and do get in touch if you have concerns about your horse during the hot weather.

🐴 Thinking of giving Bute? Read this first...

We completely understand. Your horse is not quite right, and your first thought is often, "I'll just give a sachet of Bute."

But before you do... please give us a call!

Our veterinary team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and advice over the phone is free.

Why?

💊 Oral Bute and Danilon do not work instantly. They can take up to a couple of hours to have their full effect, so if you give a sachet and then call us twenty minutes later, your horse may simply not have had time to respond.

⚠️ Bute is not a harmless medication. In the wrong dose, or in the wrong situation, it can do more harm than good. It can mask the signs of a more serious condition, making it harder for us to diagnose the problem, and overdosing can lead to serious complications including colitis and kidney damage.

It is also worth remembering that medication prescribed for one horse is not necessarily appropriate for another. Age, weight, underlying health conditions and any other medications your horse is receiving all affect whether Bute or Danilon is the right choice.

We know veterinary costs can quickly add up, which is exactly why we are happy to talk things through over the phone first. We can triage the situation, advise whether your horse needs to be seen urgently and, if appropriate, tell you to give oral Bute or Danilon and make sure you are giving the correct dose.

Please help us to help you. If your horse is not quite right, call us on 01342 300008 for Felbridge clients or 01303 768530 for East clients, before reaching for the Bute. It could make all the difference!
