☀️ Heatwave incoming for the Bank Holiday weekend! ☀️

If you’re hacking to the pub this weekend and enjoying a cold drink in the sunshine, please remember your horse can’t nip to the bar for a refreshing pint afterwards!

Very hot weather can increase the risk of dehydration and impaction colic, so it’s really important to encourage plenty of fluid intake:
💧 Fresh clean water at all times
🥣 Wet mashes or soaked feeds
🌾 Soaked hay
⚡ Electrolytes where appropriate
🌳 Access to shade and good airflow

If your horse has been exercised, travelled, or is simply feeling the heat, we also advise thoroughly hosing them down with cool water and allowing the water to remain on the body to evaporate naturally, rather than scraping it straight off. As the water evaporates from the skin, it helps cool the horse effectively. Cooling the skin also encourages vasodilation (widening of the blood vessels near the skin surface) which helps the horse release excess body heat more efficiently.

So while you’re sitting in the pub garden this Bank Holiday, make sure your horse is parked in the shade with plenty of water and a good cool-down too!

Back on Track Flu Vaccination Amnesty – May Offer 💉

• Book your horse’s first or restart flu (or combined flu and tetanus) vaccination in May

• Receive the second (21-60 days later) vaccine FREE

This is a great opportunity if your horse’s vaccinations have lapsed or if you previously chose not to vaccinate. Even horses that don’t travel are still at risk. Equine flu is airborne and can travel miles, especially where other horses are hacking, competing, or near bridleways.

Below, we are some info slides about Equine Flu, its spread and ways to reduce it's impact on yard.

If you are ever concerned, or would like to book an appointment to make use of our Amnesty offer please call 01342 300008 or email [email protected]

🌟Vet Receptionist Appreciation Week🌟

This week is all about our amazing reception team 💙

They are the voice on the end of the phone, the ones juggling a million things at once, and the people who keep the whole clinic ticking along, no matter how busy (or chaotic!) the day gets.

From answering constant calls and sorting accounts, to dealing with insurance, export paperwork, prescriptions and drug requests… they somehow manage it all. They’re there for every question, every worried owner, every emergency, and every difficult conversation – as well as all the happy, routine bookings in between.

They work their magic with the diary, fitting in the impossible and keeping everything moving, while also keeping the vets in check!

And even after a long, busy day on the phones, they’ll still stay late to make sure everything is finished and nothing gets missed.

A big thank you to our brilliant team:
Nickie, Jess, Morgan, Hannah, Emma, Polly, Juliette, Sally, Paula, and Maddie 💙

We honestly couldn’t do this without you – thank you for everything you do xx

‼️ Equine Influenza confirmed case in Surrey ‼️

We would like to make our clients aware of a recent confirmed case of equine influenza in Surrey.

Since April 2026, the Equine Infectious Disease Surveillance (EIDS) network has been made aware of 6 confirmed outbreaks across 6 separate counties in England, so it’s important to remain aware and take sensible precautions.

We encourage all horse owners to stay vigilant for signs of respiratory disease, including fever, inappetence, coughing, and nasal discharge 🤧 If you are concerned about a horse under your care, please contact the clinic on 01342 300008 and our veterinary team will be happy to help.

While we do not want our clients to panic, it is important to keep this in perspective. In most cases, equine influenza causes mild clinical signs and will resolve with minimal intervention, supportive care, and anti-inflammatories.

We had a fantastic afternoon last week at the clinic hosting a dissection session for our local Pony Club teenagers, led by our vets Graham and Celia. With a brilliant turnout of 24 keen young learners, the group got hands-on (and gloved up!) exploring equine hearts and lower limbs.

We covered the basics of equine cardiology and distal limb anatomy, sparking lots of great questions and discussions about just how impressive and well-designed these structures are. It was also lovely to chat about pathways into equine veterinary careers, from nursing to becoming a veterinary surgeon, with some very enthusiastic faces in the room.

A big thank you to , @ , Kent Sevenoaks Pony Club page , and for joining us. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

🖥️ With so much information available online, it’s understandable that many owners turn to search engines or AI tools first when they have a concern about their horse.

While some websites and resources can be helpful, not everything you read online will be accurate, reliable, or relevant to your horse’s specific situation.

📞 If you’re ever unsure or worried, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re always here to offer advice, answer questions, and help you make the best decision for your horse’s health .
