At East Boldon Alternative Provision, we don’t start with subjects — we start with the child. 💛

When a child feels safe, known, valued, and understood, the learning follows.

We are incredibly grateful to our amazing parents for trusting us, supporting us, and sharing such powerful feedback about their children’s journeys. Seeing young people reconnect with education, rebuild confidence, and feel happy within themselves again is exactly why we do what we do.

Through supportive relationships, outdoor learning, animals, sport, and tailored education, we help children with SEMH needs, anxiety, and SEND feel safe enough to learn again — while continuing to develop essential Maths and English skills.

Sometimes the first step back into education isn’t a traditional classroom. Sometimes it’s simply a place where a child can finally breathe, feel calm, and believe in themselves again.

If you’d like to talk about a child, explore a placement, or just have a conversation — we’re here.

Kindness, care and courage sit at the heart of everything we do.

🛠️ CONSTRUCTION VOCATIONAL TASTER

Not every young person is built to sit behind a desk all day.

Some need to move.
To build.
To create.
To use their hands.
To learn by DOING.

At East Boldon Alternative Provision, our Construction Vocational Taster gives Year 10 & 11 learners the opportunity to step outside the traditional classroom and into something purposeful, practical, and confidence-building.

🔨 Bricklaying
🪚 Carpentry & Joinery
🎨 Painting & Decorating
⚠️ Health & Safety
🚧 Real construction skills
💪 Real confidence building

This course is for the young person who’s full of energy… full of ideas… the one who struggles within four walls but thrives when given responsibility, practical tasks, and a chance to prove themselves.

The child who’s often labelled “disruptive” — but underneath it all is saying:

“I CAN do this.”

At EBAP, we recognise that potential. We create opportunities for young people to channel their energy, develop real-life skills, and experience success in an environment where they feel understood, supported, and capable.

Maths and English are embedded and evidenced throughout everything we do — from measuring and planning, to communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and written reflections — helping learners continue developing essential core skills in a way that feels relevant and achievable.

Our model allows learners to spend three days with us and two days within school, maintaining those important relationships while working together towards the same goal that schools, teachers, and parents all want to see:

A happy, fulfilled young person who can finally say…

✨ “I’ve found my way.” ✨

This is about more than learning a trade.
It’s about becoming work-ready, building self-belief, and helping young people realise their potential before they leave school.

🔥 Learn a trade.
🚧 Build confidence.
🛠️ Get ahead of the game.

🐎 We’re proud to be an ABRS+ Accredited Centre 🇬🇧

At East Boldon Alternative Provision, this accreditation sits perfectly in alignment with our own ethos — putting the welfare of our animals and the safety, care and development of our young people at the heart of everything we do.

For us, it was a no brainer.

Being ABRS+ approved means we’ve been independently inspected and meet high standards across:
✔️ Animal welfare
✔️ Health & safety
✔️ Staff professionalism
✔️ Quality of provision

But more importantly, it reflects who we already are.

A safe, structured and nurturing environment where relationships come first and young people are supported to re-engage, rebuild confidence and find their pathway.

We’re incredibly proud of our team for continuing to uphold and live these standards every single day 💙

Today we say a huge thank you to two truly amazing practitioners, Miles Thursby and Andrea Coulthard, as they head back to the BBC for the summer to support the young cast of a children’s BBC show ❤️

Between them, they have brought so much energy, patience, laughter and support to East Boldon Alternative Provision. Their kindness, encouragement and ability to connect with our young people has made a lasting difference, and they have become such a valued part of our team.

Thank you both for everything you have done for our young people and our wider EBAP family this term. We hope you both have an amazing summer filming with The BBC and we already look forward to welcoming you back to East Boldon Alternative Provision in September. 💙

Well done to every young person who has completed their first full week of exams 🤍

This week has taken resilience, courage, determination and strength — and no matter how the papers have gone, getting through the first week is an achievement in itself.

Behind every student is a network of parents, carers, teachers, support staff, schools and alternative provisions who have supported, encouraged and believed in them every step of the way. For many young people, simply walking into an exam hall can feel overwhelming, yet they continue to show up and try their best every single day.

Many students are navigating challenges people may never fully see — anxiety, SEND needs, confidence struggles, attendance difficulties and personal battles — and that makes this week even more significant.

To our young people:Be proud of yourselves. You have made it through the first full week, and that is something worth celebrating. Remember, exam results will never define your value, your character or your future.

As we head into the next week:✨ Rest this weekend✨ Eat well and stay hydrated✨ Take time to switch off✨ Be kind to yourselves✨ Keep believing in how far you’ve already come

We are incredibly proud of every single one of you 💪🤍

The realities of caring for animals and running a small provision have never felt more real than they do right now. 💛

Last month we had to pay almost four times the usual cost for fertiliser just to maintain healthy paddocks and ensure our horses and small animals have the grazing they need.

Like many small businesses and farms, the impact of rising costs and global events is being felt more than ever behind the scenes. But one thing that will never change at East Boldon Alternative Provision is our commitment to the wellbeing of our animals and the young people who benefit from them every single day.

Our animals are such an important part of helping children feel calm, regulated, safe, and ready to learn again — and giving them the care they deserve will always remain a priority for us.

A huge thank you to Alderslade’s Farming for their continued support — here’s a clip of the fields being treated last month 🚜🌱

And thank you to everyone who supports East Boldon Alternative Provision. Every kind word, share, recommendation, and bit of encouragement genuinely means the world to us.

As we move into Mental Health Awareness Week, it’s a reminder of just how important space, nature, and connection can be for emotional wellbeing. 🌿

When life feels overwhelming, busy, or emotionally heavy, being outdoors can have a powerful impact. Fresh air, open space, animals, movement, and time away from constant pressure can help calm the nervous system and create the breathing space young people often need.

At East Boldon Alternative Provision, we see every day how outdoor learning supports emotional regulation in a meaningful and achievable way. Across our 25 acres of land, young people have the opportunity to reconnect with themselves through nature, animals, practical learning, and supportive relationships.

Sometimes emotional regulation isn’t about removing emotions altogether — it’s about giving young people the right environment to feel calmer, safer, and more able to cope with them.

For many children, open spaces, fresh air, movement, animals, and learning outside of a traditional classroom can help reduce overwhelm and create the foundations needed to begin engaging again.

We believe wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. When a young person feels calm, safe, and understood, confidence begins to grow again. 💛

We’re officially 5 STAR ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We’re incredibly proud to share that East Boldon Alternative Provision has been awarded a 5⭐ Animal Welfare Licence by our local authority, South Tyneside Council - the highest rating possible.

This isn’t just a certificate on the wall…
It’s recognition of the standards we live and breathe every single day.

From the care of our horses and small animals, to the safe, structured environment we provide for our young people — everything we do is built around:
✔️ Exceptional animal welfare
✔️ High levels of safety and compliance
✔️ Skilled, dedicated staff
✔️ A calm, nurturing environment

For us, welfare always comes first — no matter the cost, no matter the pressure.

We’re so proud of our team for consistently going above and beyond to create a space where both animals and young people can thrive 💙

This week, some of our learners at East Boldon Alternative Provision begin their study leave as they prepare to sit their GCSEs — and we honestly could not be more proud of them. 💛

Watching their journeys from the moment they first arrived at EBAP to where they are now has been an absolute privilege.

We have seen young people grow in confidence, build resilience, develop hands-on vocational skills, care for our animals with kindness and patience, form friendships, trust adults again, and slowly begin to believe in themselves and their futures.

At East Boldon Alternative Provision, our ethos has always been simple: relationships first.

We believe that when a young person feels safe, understood, valued, and genuinely cared for, growth follows. Not just academically — but emotionally, socially, and personally too.

Every conversation, every small breakthrough, every moment of encouragement, every shared laugh in the yard, classroom, sports provision, or around the animals matters. Because education here has never just been about qualifications. It has always been about helping young people rediscover who they are and what they are capable of becoming.

Some of these learners arrived carrying anxiety, self-doubt, or experiences that made education feel impossible. Yet here they are — stepping into exam season stronger, more confident, and with people around them who truly believe in them.

To every learner leaving us for study leave:
thank you. 💛

Thank you for the laughs, the resilience, the courage, the honesty, and for simply being the incredible young people that you are.

You should all be unbelievably proud of yourselves — because we certainly are.

No matter where life takes you next, a part of EBAP will always walk with you. 🌿

🌿 Learning, Growing and Belonging in Our Barn 🌿

Our indoor barn is so much more than a place with animals — it’s a place where young people grow.

In here, learners take part in real, meaningful responsibilities. They plan feeding routines, work together to clean and maintain animal spaces, and carefully handle and care for our goats, guinea pigs & ponies. Through these everyday tasks, they develop patience, communication and problem-solving skills — all while feeling calm, valued and capable.

Throughout the day, learning weaves naturally between academic and practical experiences. A simple task like weighing food becomes a maths lesson, reading care instructions supports literacy, and working as a team builds social skills and confidence.

But perhaps the most powerful learning happens in the quiet moments — when a child sits beside a guinea pig, grooms a pony, or watches a goat settle into its space. These moments build emotional awareness, reduce anxiety, and help young people feel safe and connected.

At Team EBAP, our indoor barn brings together care, learning and wellbeing in a truly unique way — helping every child to develop, grow and leave with positive memories of their learning journey. 🐐✨
