Does your dog watch the telly ? 😆📺What's their favorite programme ? 📺

Dogs are able to make sense of images on modern television and it's all to do with the refresh rate - does this mean you could have a four-legged telly addict on your hands?

Well, No not really - but some breeds of dog might be more interested in what's going on on the box than others. If your dog likes chasing squirrels, their attention might be caught by wildlife programmes, or even televised football.

World Hello Day is observed on the 21st of November each year and encourages people to foster understanding and communication rather than conflict and force.

We think it's an ideal opportunity to highlight this philosophy when it comes to taking care of and training our dogs. At Holidays4Dogs, we always advocate force-free, positive, training and care of our own dogs, or dogs we are caring for.

We are beginning to understand so much more about dog behaviour. There is so much knowledge available, which demonstrates kind and effective methods for training our dogs and enriching their lives. There should be no justification for any lesser regard for our loyal friends and their deserved welfare.

At Holidays4Dogs, we abide by these principles because, we believe treating our dogs kindly and fairly, is the only way. We also believe this should become universally recognised throughout the pet care services industry. That includes trainers, dog walkers, sitters and home boarders.

Many of us are looking forward to warm winter woollies and cosy nights in front of the fire once the nights draw in. Lots of us feel the cold in the winter and often need thick, warm coats and boots to keep the chill out.

But do dogs feel the cold as well? - despite all that fur?

It turns out, even healthy dogs - well protected with a layer of fur - can still feel the cold. Small breeds and dogs with very short coats will also most definitely need extra protection on cold winter days.

Our canine companions can show similar signs to people as they age. Their bones become creakier, they have less patience and less energy. However, older dogs have settled into a routine, they can still act like puppies on occasion and they still provide company and companionship.

Older rescue dogs often make lovely, calm, pets - so if you're thinking of offering a senior dog a lovely retirement home where they can be offered empathy, comfort and love - please get in touch with your local rescue centres.

Senior dogs can often begin to dislike a change in routine. They may become stressed or anxious with new people or, new environments. Even in a previously confident dog, they may become less equipped to deal with the stresses of a busy holiday, or a long car journey, for example. Just like people, many elderly dogs will prefer a quiet, sedate life - perfect if you're looking to adopt a laid-back companion who is past the need for lengthy hikes.

It is worth noting that Holidays4Dogs have some wonderful highly experienced carers who are happy to look after elderly dogs.

At Holidays4Dogs, we're always looking out for the latest dog news and trends - and this might include anything from welfare to behaviour or, canine history - to some rather more unique subjects relating to our four-legged friends.

How about KNITTING with DOG HAIR? 🧶🐩

The idea of knitting with yarn made from greasy dog hair might sound a bit yucky at first. You may wonder what clothing made from dog hair might smell like when it's wet!

However, knitting with dog hair is gaining in popularity, not least because it's warm, plush and water-resistant. If you have certain breeds of dog, there is also a very good ongoing supply of dog hair.

Chiengora is the name given to the yarn spun from dog hair. 'Chien’ is the French word for dog and ‘gora’ is from the word ‘angora’, meaning the soft fur of the rabbit. It has a much softer feel to it than wool, or cotton, and it's eighty per cent warmer than sheep’s wool.
