How, where, and when we reinforce our dogs is very important—each slight change in frequency, speed, or value alters the message we communicate to them.

There’s so much conflicting information on the internet regarding dog training. There’s good advice, bad advice, different styles, various methods, and many philosophies. It’s challenging to sift through what is useful and what is not.

As a pet owner, I want three main things from my dogs:

1. A good loose lead when walking - No matter who is walking the dog—myself, my wife, or one of the kids—I want my dog to walk calmly on a loose lead at my side. This ensures a safe and stress-free experience for both me and my dog.

2. A reliable recall -I want to be able to take my dog anywhere—the beach, a field, a forest, or the fells—and let them run, knowing that when I call them, they will come back to me immediately. This gives my dog the freedom to run and enjoy life while fulfilling their natural instincts.

3. Calmness around visitors - I want my dog to be calm and neutral around visitors to my house or when meeting people in public.

Other than that, I don’t ask for much (except for a good cuddle on the sofa from time to time).

⚫️ Learn The Rules

In this phase, we establish the foundational elements of your dog's training. We identify the specific behaviors we want to teach—such as sit, down, and walking on a loose lead—and decide on the markers we’ll use to signal these behaviors, along with the methods we’ll use to reinforce them. This framework applies to any behavior we want to encourage.

Perfect The Rules

During this stage, we focus on building consistency through repetition. We work on correcting mistakes and celebrating successes to ensure that your dog understands the commands and responds reliably.

Dissolve The Rules

Once you and your dog are comfortable in your learning and the desired behaviors are being consistently performed, we can start to deviate from strict training rules. This opens up a world of fun and exploration, allowing you to engage in new activities and strengthen your bond in creative ways.

⚫️Primal k9 Puppy Plan is our bespoke comprehensive training program, specifically designed for the needs of your puppy during the critical period of learning. We recommend weekly sessions that are conducted in the comfort of your own home, where you as the trainer can perfect a range of essential skills and learn how to teach desired behaviours, ensuring that both you and your puppy start off on the right road to a bright future together.

During these sessions we aim to develop your confidence and skills as owners by giving you a clear guide on the following and an understating of their importance, Crate Training, Marking behaviours, Toilet training, Feeding schedule, Threshold Control, the importance of the ‘No’ Command, Luring, and Reinforcement.
Crate Training is an effective way to teach your puppy how to relax in a safe and comfortable space. This skill is especially important when establishing a routine and provides a secure environment for your puppy and family.

Toilet training is a crucial aspect we will address. We will guide you on effective techniques to help your puppy develop proper bathroom habits, ensuring a clean and hygienic living space for both of you.
In addition to this, we will assist you in creating a food schedule that suits your puppy's needs, ensuring they receive proper nutrition and develop healthy eating habits.

Threshold control is an essential skill for your puppy to learn, involving teaching your puppy to wait calmly at doorways and not rush out, preventing accidents and ensures their safety.

We will also introduce the "No" command, teaching your puppy to understand and respond appropriately to this important cue. This command is useful for establishing boundaries and discouraging unwanted behaviors.

Furthermore, we will introduce you to clicker training, a positive reinforcement technique that helps to effectively communicate with your puppy. This method allows you to mark desired behaviors and reinforce them, making the learning process enjoyable and rewarding for your puppy.

Luring and teaching positions is another aspect we will cover, teaching your puppy various positions such as sit and down. These commands are foundational providing the basis for more advanced future training.

Lastly, we will guide you on Reinforcement Scheduling, helping you understand how and when to reward your puppy for good behavior. Consistent and appropriate reinforcement plays a crucial role in shaping your puppy's behavior and ensuring their continued progress.

By participating in our puppy training program, you and your puppy will be well-prepared for a bright future together. Our comprehensive approach addresses key skills and behaviors, providing a solid foundation for a well-behaved and happy canine companion.
