With Crufts this week championing all dogs, the show reflects on how pets are such an important, if not essential part of our lives. Our pets are family members, constant companions and a source of joy and comfort to all of us.
Their presence in our lives is enriching and sometimes, life saving.
It makes that dreadful decision to say goodbye all the harder.
My name is Pauline, I’ve been a veterinary surgeon for 39 years and a pet owner all of my life. Losing your best friend at any moment is terrible, and with Christmas being upon us it makes that loss so much harder to bear. My name is Pauline and I have been a vet for thirty two years and moved to Exmoor to spend time with my own plethora of pets. Having grown up with cats, a tortoise and Guinea pigs, I now have five horses, six dogs, several ferrets and some chickens. I love nothing more than to explore the delights of Exmoor either on my horse, bike or with my dogs. As a lifelong pet owner, I have always chosen to have my own pets euthanised at home where they are most relaxed, and had always offered the same service to my clients.
Sadly, nowadays many vets simply haven’t got the time to be able to leave their premises, so being able to offer your much loved companion a peaceful and compassionate end at home can be your final act of kindness.
