This afternoon started with Nellie proudly greeting me at the door, toy in tow, as if it was the most important thing she needed to show me. Moments like that never fail to make me smile. Then it was coats on and out for our walk. Rocco was more than ready for the adventure, while Nellie needed a little convincing at first 🙊 but once we got going, they were both in their element, noses busy and tails wagging as they explored the world one sniff at a time.
When we got home, Nellie very politely reminded me that the post-walk snack was an essential part of the routine. 😂🙈 we had some playtime and of course treats. After that, it wasn’t long before both pups had settled down, sleepy and content after their adventures.
What gets me most isn’t the walks or the playtime, it’s the bond that’s quietly growing between us. A couple of weeks ago, we were still getting to know each other, and now I’m greeted with excitement, trust, and familiar little rituals that make every visit feel special. There is something incredibly touching about being welcomed so wholeheartedly by animals.
Nellie following me to the door when it’s time to leave gets me every single time. That little face watching me go is enough to break even the toughest heart. And Rocco is usually far too cosy in bed to make much of a fuss, I like to think that’s his own way of saying he feels safe and content.
It’s amazing how much love can be found in the simplest moments, a toy proudly carried over, an excited greeting, a gentle nudge for a treat, or a sleepy pup curled up after a good walk. These two have found a place in my heart far quicker than they could ever know, and I feel so lucky to be part of their days, even in a small way❤️🥰
