Sycamore poisoning awareness post
There's nothing worse than attending to your beloved pets to find something wrong, or even worse, them not breathing.
Unfortunately, this happened to one of my friends only yesterday.
Sycamore poisoning in horses, also known as atypical myopathy, is a severe and often fatal muscle disease caused by the toxin Hypoglycin A (HGA) found in sycamore seeds, leaves, and seedlings. Symptoms include weakness, muscle tremors, difficulty standing or breathing, and dark, reddish-brown urine. If you suspect your horse has ingested sycamore and is showing symptoms, contact your vet immediately, as early intervention can improve survival chances.
So please, be vigilant with where your horses are grazing, check the trees, the plants, all shrubbery, because it only takes seconds for them to digest somthing poisonous and for it to end up being fatal.
My thoughts are with my friends, the only time our pets break our hearts is when they cross that rainbow 🌈 bridge 💔
