CCNđ
Weâve had a surge in cases recently so thought weâd do an update of what to look out for and how we can help.
CCN (cerebrocortical necrosis)/ PEM (polioencephalomalacia) is most commonly seen in weaned lambs between 4 and 8 months of age. Individual animals are affected after a dietary change or move to a new pasture.
Clinical signs:
⢠Blindness
⢠Isolated from group
⢠Star gazing
⢠Lying flat out
⢠Seizuring
⢠Death
Treatment includes high doses of intravenous thiamine (vitamin B ) and sheep should be able to stand again within 24 hours of treatment.
If you ever have any lambs showing similar signs, donât delay! Give us a call as soon as possible for us to assess and start treatment for the best chance of full recovery!
