Meet Fergus! 😻

This adorable little bundle visited this week for his first vaccinations and stole our hearts 💖

Fergus has joined the Pet Health Club, and as a member under 6 months old, he has also become a Little Paws member 🐾

As a member, Fergus received a free bag of Purina Proplan kitten food and his owners will also receive extra guidance, support and advice straight to their inbox during those crucial early months!

We can't wait to see Fergus again soon for his second vaccinations ❤️

How adorable is lovely Toast 🍞

This gorgeous boy visited with a very sore and inflamed nail bed with a damaged claw. Toast was sedated and the claw treated, we are pleased to report he was soon feeling much better and able to run and play without pain 💙

We particularly enjoyed his egg-cellent harness! 🍳

Wellness Screening helps detect hidden health issues before they become serious. It’s an important annual check for cats aged 7 and over, even if they seem perfectly healthy.

🚨 Would you be able to recognise a Gastric Dilation and Vulvolus (GDV) in your dog? 🚨

🚑 A GDV is a true, life-threatening emergency condition in dogs. If you own a dog please take the time to familiarise yourself with the signs and symptoms as time is of the essence in these cases! Large, deep chested breeds are most at risk but it can happen to any breed of dog.

What is ‘Gastric Dilation and Volvulus (GDV)’?

A GDV, is a rapidly progressive and life threatening condition in dogs. It is characterised as a swelling and twisting of the stomach due to a sudden accumulation of gas, fluid and digested food, which cannot be expelled. As pressure increases inside the stomach it has several severe consequences and can be fatal.

What are the symptoms?

🔴 Bloat (a swollen tummy)
🔴 Retching (trying to vomit without bringing anything up)
🔴 Vomiting.
🔴 Excessive drooling.
🔴 Stomach pain.
🔴 Pale gums.
🔴 Collapse.

How can I prevent Gastric Dilation and Volvulus?

Some recommendations to decrease the risk include; encouraging slow feeding, avoiding exercise an hour before and two hours post feeding, feeding meals in multiple smaller portions.

An elective gatropexy can be performed on high-risk breeds in a non-emergency setting to prevent dogs suffering from a life threatening GDV in the future. A gastropexy is a surgical procedure in which the stomach is permanently attached to the muscle wall of the abdomen. The procedure can be performed at the time of neutering with the assistance of minimally invasive keyhole surgery equipment. It is advised that if you own a breed at risk to discuss the procedure with your veterinarian at your pre-neuter health check.

This summer we've seen a noticeable increase in stray cats coming through our doors. While we work hard to reunite every one with their family, it's not always possible. 😔

The most effective way to protect your cat and ensure a happy reunion is through microchipping.

If your cat is already microchipped, please take a moment to double-check that your contact information is current. A microchip is only as good as the details linked to it, so make sure your address and phone number are up to date! 📱

Microchipping gives you the best chance of being reunited with your furry friend if they ever wander too far from home. ❤️
