Ben, one of our volunteers was asked to fill up one on the birds baths with the watering can. A simple job you may think, and for most people it would..... but not for Ben.... Ben was carrying a full watering can which turned into a mini Tsunami and then landed on him, not only did he stack it, he got drenched 🤣😂😅😂🤣 Ben also asked us to share it! Thank you Ben for making a crowded centre and us laugh so much 😆 😂🤣😂🤣

Today's rescue is a young Buzzard that got caught up in a bramble bush, he's been there for sometime as he had significant damage to his wing and foot. He was so underweight he had no muscle left and was too poorly to save. Did the kindest thing 😩😭

Yesterdays rescue has a sad story, we were called by Coombefield Vets to say that they had a call from a solicitor at a property in Axminster where he had found some homing pigeons at a property where the gentleman had died a few weeks previous. As he lived alone and had no next of kin, nobody knew about the homing pigeons, which were clearly his life 😢 we were asked to help and of course we did. There were 3 left and one had died so we caught up the other 2. They are now with us and doing well. They are incredibly thin as we think they may not have had any food or water for a few weeks. They will stay with us for the foreseeable future until arrangements can be made for them. Very sad situation. RIP to the gentleman that clearly loved his birds 🥰

After much consideration, we have decided to start a Go Fund Me page. We have been struggling recently due to the finances behind each rescue. Not only do we rescue EVERY call that come in 24/7 we can sometimes lose money by having to cancel a booking.

Last year we rescued over 50 birds and this year we are closing in on 30 already, we are passionate about what we do but we have found, through people calling us to rescue a bird, that they have tried to call other animal rescue centres and had no help. The other day we were called after 16 other organisations were called. This is becoming more and more common, we even had a gentleman from Leamington Spa call us for a rescue as he found a bird at 5am and we were apparently the 36th contact and spoke to us at 2pm, thankfully we were able to get this sorted.

We really don't want to have to stop rescuing but we can't allow it to effect our own birds and there are times we seriously struggle to make ends meet.

In the past we have faced much criticism when we have put up a funding page for our rescues but, we now have no option.

There are times that a rescue will send us on a 3 hour round trip. We have calulated that in the last 8/9 weeks we travelled close to 1000 miles for 18 rescues.

Less than 3% of people that we go and rescue a bird from are able to donate, and we accept that, we also appreciate they are not obliged to but we are struggling to come up with another idea to support our rescuing. In the past there have been people, one couple in particular that have been more than generous in donating to us (all we did was rescue a Kestrel in
Portland many, many years ago) and without their generosity we may not be in the position to rescue now.

So, please try to understand we don't really have an option other that to create a Go Fund Me page, anyone that is abusive or rude to us will be removed. This isn't something we are going into lightly, at the end of the day this is for the birds!

If you want to make a donation direct to us, please PM us for details. Thank you so much, Sharon and Matt xx

After much consideration, we have decided to start a Go Fund … Sharandys Birds Of Prey needs your support for To help us rescue & rehab wild birds of prey for 12 months.

2 rescues today, the first was a Tawny Owl in Lyme Regis that had suffered severe head trauma and a smashed beak. Sadly we had no choice other than to pts.💔💔💔

The Second was a female Sparrow Hawk found in West Bay. She was checked over by Bredy Vets and she seems to just be stunned and has a slight head shake. A few days of rest and treatment, she should hopefully be released by the weekend 😀 🙌 🤞

Rescued this Sparrow Hawk this morning from Yeovil after flying into patio doors. Checked over by JJ at Coombefield Vets and the xrays showed no breaks. Hopefully a few days with us, some pain relief and some quail to keep her going and we should hopefully release her by the weekend 🙏

Called out late last night to a fledgling Barn Owl found out near Chard. Sadly he had died by the time we got there. Really sad 😔 Barn Owls have really struggled this summer. Due to the lack of rain, the grass hasn't grown so small rodents have no cover, this means Barns Owls have struggled to hunt. This little guy was only about 7-8 weeks Owl 😢😢😢

The little Tawny Owl that we rescued 2 weeks ago has now been released. Good luck little guy 🥰🥰🥰
