Stephen has sent us a great pterodactyl picture from South Foreland Lighthouse in Kent, UK. Now owned by the National Trust the lighthouse was built in 1846, but there has been a light there since the 1300's, the lighthouse is no longer operational. Its role was to help protect sailors from the dangers of the Goodwin Sands, a 10 mile sandbank, also known as the 'Great Ship Swallower'. Over 2,000 shipwrecks have been recorded there.

Thanks to Bryan for his pterodactyl picture from Baiter Park in Poole, Dorset. It's obviously a popular place to fly a kite - it's our second sighting from Baiter Park which being next to Poole Harbour no doubt catches a good sea breeze on a blue sky summer day.

Thanks to Stephen from the Kent Kite Flyers for his recent pterodactyl picture taken (with a companion) at their annual 'Kites on the Beach' as part of Walmer Town Council's Children's Day. The kite flying was held near the Julius Caesar Memorial Plaque (the plaque indicates the approximate spot where Julius Caesar and his troops are believed to have first landed in August 55BC).

Thanks to Joe and Osian for their great picture from Traeth Porth Ceiriad beach in North Wales. We hear Osian is obsessed with dinosaurs, however it looks like their dog is more interested in the sea!

We asked yesterday if you had got your pterodactyl out this half term. Well done to seven-year-old Evie who was flying her pterodactyl high above the beach at Ilfracombe yesterday.

It's half term in the UK but so far in Dorset its been a windy few days with gusts over 30mph, a bit too strong for our pterodactyl. The kite really likes a sea breeze, which can often be found around the coast on a sunny spring and summer day.
During hot sunny days, the land surface heats up faster than the water surface. Therefore, the air above the land is warmer than the air above the ocean. The warmer air above the land rises with cooler air over the ocean flowing towards the land surface to replace the rising warm air. This usually happens in the afternoon and can produce a very steady 'sea breeze', around a force 3, ideal for kite flying!
If you've managed to get your pterodactyl out for some half-term kite flying do send us a picture!

We've just received a great picture from Emma, taken at our nearby popular fossil hunting beach of Charmouth. Emma commented
'Hands down the best kite ever! It flys so well and lands gracefully! It’s a proper head turner, loads of people saying how awesome and cool it was! 10/10 would highly recommend'
Thanks Emma, that's wonderful to hear. Please keep your sighting pictures coming.
