Tick Warning for Dogs & Owners ๐พ
With the warmer weather and more time spent outdoors, ticks are becoming a big problem across Ireland and the UK. As dog owners, itโs so important to check our dogs regularly, especially after walks in long grass, forests, fields, or parks. ๐ฟ
Ticks can carry Lyme disease and other infections, which can affect both dogs and humans. They are tiny and easy to miss, often hiding around the ears, neck, under collars, armpits, toes, groin area, and face.
โ ๏ธ Please check your dogs after every walk
โ๏ธ Run your hands through the coat
โ๏ธ Check warm hidden areas carefully
โ๏ธ Keep up to date with tick prevention treatments
โ๏ธ Remove ticks safely with a proper tick remover โ never pull or squeeze them
Signs to watch for in dogs:
๐ถ Tiredness or lethargy
๐ถ Limping or stiffness
๐ถ Swollen joints
๐ถ Loss of appetite
๐ถ Fever or unusual behaviour
If your dog seems unwell after a tick bite, contact your vet for advice.
Please stay vigilant โ a quick check after walks could save a lot of problems later. ๐ Feel free to share to help spread awareness and keep our dogs safe. ๐พ
