It’s looking like it’s going to be a scorching bank holiday weekend, so it’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with what temperatures are safe for your dog☀️🐶
Every year our vets treat hundreds of heat stroke cases and, heartbreakingly, some end in tragedy. Many are unfortunately a result of owners not knowing the dangers of exercising their dogs in temperatures to hot for them to handle.
Heat-related illnesses are almost always preventable. DONT TAKE THE RISK and make sure your pet isn’t overheating in the sun.
Temperatures over 24 degrees will be uncomfortable for most of our dogs, so make sure you are walking them at the coolest times of the day or simply keep them at home and give them some mental stimulation and enrichment things to do instead.
If you think your dog may be suffering from heat stroke, contact your vet immediately! If out-of-hours, find your nearest emergency vet.
⚠️ Remember, Get them Wet, then get them to the Vet! ⚠️

‼️READ CAPTION‼️

Loud or unexpected noises like fireworks can be frightening for many dogs. For an owner, seeing your best friend distressed can be upsetting. But don’t worry, there are several ways you can help your dog through it.

What to do during fireworks:

• Block out flashes and bangs. Close any windows or curtains and turn the lights on.

• Put on music or the TV to help disguise the noise. Try Classic FM radio or look for a dog soothing playlist – gentle piano tracks that help mask fireworks and soothe anxiety.

• If your dog wants to hide, let them stay where they feel safe. Try creating a safe place or a den where they can feel comfortable.

• If they seek reassurance, calmly give them attention and comfort. Try not to over fuss them as soon as the fireworks start as this can increase their anxiety. But also remember that research shows that ignoring them won’t help.

• Try to stay calm and relaxed yourself. Your dog will pick up on how you’re feeling, so do your best to relax.

• Don’t tell your dog off. If your dog makes a mess or does something you don’t want because of their fear, avoid telling them off. This might make them feel more scared.

• Make sure their water bowl is full and you feed them earlier in the evening. Also walk them earlier to avoid being out at the time of the fireworks.

• Keep your dog on a lead just in case, dogs can get frightened and run away. Also check that all their details and microchip numbers are up to date to be safe.
