They don't have a bad life do they? The hacking from on our door step is excellent, but the beach is only an hour away, and Sherwood Pines and Clumber Park are half an hour in a box. We also have an annual trip to the little lodge in Thetford. If this sounds like your sort of yard get in touch.

Our DIY track is available for rent again, sadly due to previous tenants ill health.
It consists of a full grass tracked 7 acre field with large mature hedges and a large walk in barn. We will manage the grouncare, fencing and provide hay or haylage should you want it. The rest is for you to enjoy. We have a high quality 20x40 dressage arena available on site.
Whilst the tracks are currently predominantly grass, there are options to keep horses off the grass or run an equicentral system.
Fantastic quiet local hacking.
Care can be arranged for holidays etc.

Please contact me for more details.

Massive nettle fans here at LFL!

Good old common nettles, everyone complains about them growing everywhere. But they are a very important herb: the richest source of chlorophyll in the vegetable kingdom, they are rich in minerals including iron, lime, potassium, sodium, sulphur and contain much protein. They can be either cut or wilted or boiled and both juice and nettle added to feed. Old fashioned hay tea was made by putting a wedge of hay into a container and covering it with boiled nettle juice. Nettles are a very good blood cooler/cleanser and they are helpful in cases of arthritis, spots or nettle rashes which are usually caused by too much protein the diet – in fact they are just a good spring tonic for both man and beast.

So here we are, another 3 weeks of isolation. How's everyone coping?

Another 3 weeks (at least) of being trapped in your home.

You're only allowed out for 1 hour a day for exercise.

You can see your friends (video chat) but not touch them.

Your food supply is limited and you might run out. The food you have access too might not necessarily be good for you.

You are bored beyond belief but have no choice in the matter.

All you can do, is wait.

Some of you may show signs of stress, maybe pace around, suffer with anxiety and fustration due to a lack of social contact and nothing to do to entertain yourself.

Some of you simply 'shut down', giving off the impression that you are coping, when really, you are helpless.

Sounds familiar doesn't it?

Horses and humans are not dissimilar.

Horses need freedom, access to food (forage) and friends.

Horses NEED free choice.

Horses should NOT be confined to stables for long periods of time, or turned out individually.

If you are feeling the effects on your mental and physical health after only 3 weeks, image how your horse feels being shut in a small box, with nothing but his feaces and an empty net he ate hours ago for 6 months at a time, or the whole year.

The only difference, he doesn't have a voice, and he doesn't know it will end.

We are fighting climate change and the obesity. Crickey this last year has been hard with good doers even on grass tracks. More surfacing and sand yards to come. And trees of course 🌳🌲🌳

No stagnating in a stable here thankfully. We choose an equicentral routine with the horses out at grass during the day in winter, and between 3 large sheds at night so they are always moving. Even in this wet we ve managed to be out most days.... And crickey hasn't it been wet.

All horses can benefit from a track environment...

Connor spent all day outside on the track with his herd of 25 horses on Friday. He had his dinner at 5pm (grass nuts, oats and linseed), had a good groom and shine up and then was loaded up with his pal Prince (my wonderful ex racer who is the perfect travel companion) and we travelled to Emirates Equestrian Centre where we achieved our 6th (out of 6 shows) top 6 placing in the 130m division 1 class for this season so far 😍 After collecting our prize (and eating a bag of carrots) he went back to his hay pillow (The Hay Pillow, Inc.) to share some Timothy hay with Prince while I got something to drink and then we loaded back up and went home. After an extra supper of oats (for both) they were both turned back out on to the track for the night by 9.30pm ❀️

I am really really hoping that Connor can give motivation for other owners to allow their competition horses to still be horses; to get dirty and occasionally a little scraped up, to enjoy freedom for the time in between being required to perform and look athletic and amazing...they can still do that and be allowed freedom in between! 🀞🏻🀞🏻🀞🏻

I would just like to add that he doesn’t wear any protective boots either outside. Only tendon and fetlock boots while he is competing. The number of horses I see not allowed outside without full protective leg wear astounds me πŸ™ˆ

Track livery yards are like icebergs: 10% of the expenditure is what you see on the surface... The rest of the 90% is on drainage and hardcore. Happy to say the horses are still dry and free choice through this extreme wet! πŸ‘Œ
