What two questions do I get asked most by prospective clients?

"What are your prices?"
"What availability do you have?"

And, while these questions are relevant they're rarely the most important ones.

When you contact a trainer you are considering hiring, treat your conversation like an interview. Ask questions. Check credentials. Because otherwise how do you know that you are hiring the right person - for you 𝘢𝘯𝘥 for your dog?

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿 -

• what methods do you use in training?
• do you use physical punishment or aversive techniques?
• are you a member of any recognised professional bodies?
• what qualifications or formal education do you have?
• how long have you worked as a trainer?
• are you insured and DBS checked?

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 -

• have my questions been answered openly and without defensiveness?
• do this trainer's ethics and approach align with my own values?
• do I feel comfortable with this person?
• do they seem genuinely interested in me, my dog and our challenges?

You are the client. You decide who you hire. You are absolutely entitled to ask questions of anyone you are trusting with your dog.

No trainer worth their salt will ever resent being asked about their experience, education or ethics. Speaking personally, when an owner makes me "jump through a few hoops" I'm delighted....because it tells me they are thoughtful, informed & committed.

Finally got round to Grooming my girlies before Christmas! Who would have thought that 2 dogs would equal twice the work 😅 It's worth it though 💖
