It’s not always easy for beef farmers to ensure calves get the right quality and quantity of colostrum, it depends on the cow’s personality a lot of the time!
However it’s a crucial stage of a calf’s life. Without it they are hugely susceptible to diseases such as pneumonia and find it more difficult to thrive.

Good colostrum management is crucial for protecting calves against disease.
Give a first feed of four litres or 10% of bodyweight within four hours of birth, and follow up with a further two litres within 12 hours of birth.
