Just a reminder regarding our dogs in this hot weather:
* Never leave your dog in the car. Even windows open slightly won't make a difference. Temperatures in the car rise very quickly!
* And the same applies to conservatories or sunny rooms too that can heat up very quickly.
* Take your dog out early or late in the day. And take a bottle of water and bowl with you to give your dog a drink every so often. Or don't walk your dog at all when it is really hot, this applies especially even more to vulnerable dogs like very young, old, overweight or unwell. It is not like we have weeks of hot weather here, most dogs don't mind missing a walk or two.
* Don't throw balls/toys for your dog in hot weather. Many dogs won't know when to stop and will keep going till they drop from heat exhaustion.
* Always make sure your dog has shade and/or cover available in the garden as well as water. And don't rely on your dog to know when to move out of the sun either.
* And really important too: Always carry water and a bowl in the car! I always have that in my car, whether it is warm or not, but usually have two large bottles in the summer. If you break down or end up in a long traffic jam, your dog will need water especially in this weather. Oh, and do the same for yourself too for the same reason.
* Read up on first aid for heat stroke so you are ready if it does happen despite all precautions.
