The eagle-eyed amongst you may realise this is not a cat! This is a fledgling I found on its back in my garden. The poor thing was looking dazed and confused, and there were no sign of its parents. I checked the RSPBs site for advice, and called because a) it was clearly injured and b) it had been abandoned. They said to take it straight up there and that’s what I did.
This cat lady had identified the bird as a coal-tit, but the rescue informed me it was actually a housemartin.
They took the little sprout in, popped it in a snood with a hot water bottle and I felt huge relief people who know what they’re doing were now in charge.
Unfortunately it looks like it was a possible head trauma, so it’s 50/50 if it will make it, but I’m sending prayers to St. Francis (patron saint of animals), St. Gall (birds) and St. Jude (lost causes). 🙏
Thankfully my cats had been in the house all day due to the weather so I knew they were not guilty. This time. 🤦♀️
Oxfordshire Wildlife Rescue do a sterling job. If you’d like to donate, the link is in my bio.
