🐦 Why Settlement Space Matters for Our Bird Boarders
At Critter Creche, we understand that for a bird, moving to a new environment is a big deal. Whether it’s a tiny Budgie or a majestic African Grey, the journey and the change in scenery can be overwhelming.
That’s why we prioritise a "Settlement Period" for every feathered guest. Here is why giving our bird boarders time and space to settle in is vital for their well-being:
🐦 Keeping stress levels down
Birds are incredibly sensitive to environmental changes. New sounds, different light patterns, and unfamiliar faces can trigger a stress response. By allowing them a quiet period upon arrival, we help their heart rates return to normal and let them realize they are in a safe, secure space.
🐦 Observation Without Intrusion
When a bird first arrives, they are busy "scoping out" their surroundings. By giving them space, we can observe them from a distance to ensure they are:
🐤 Eating and drinking.
🐤 Displaying healthy posture and feathers.
🐤 Beginning to chirp.
Interacting too quickly can mask these natural behaviors as the bird goes into "alert" mode.
🐦 Establishing Trust on Their Terms
We don’t believe in forcing interaction. We let our guests set the pace. When we allow a bird to observe us moving around the room without demanding their attention, they learn that we are non-threatening. This "passive bonding" creates a much stronger friendship for the rest of their stay!
🐦 Preventing "New Environment" Night Frights
Nestled in a quiet, secluded corner of the garden, we hope to provide a serene sanctuary for our feathered friends. We’ve taken extra care to ensure the area remains completely dark after sunset, with no harsh or bright security lights to disturb their rest. By maintaining this natural cycle of light and shadow, we've created a peaceful environment where the birds can feel safe, secure, and entirely unfrightened throughout the night.
Giving birds the peace they deserve.
