We’re off to 🥳 !!!

After my mini breakdown a few weeks ago, we went to yesterday for their unaffiliated dressage for our chance to qualify in their 2nd rounds. And we did it!

Lots to work on now before the champs. But so proud of my boy, handling being at a new venue & the heat 🥵

A couple days off for us both now and a chilled week before we head to on Friday for camp!

So….Buckle in!

After saying in my last post, no pressure. I allowed my head to get the better of me and literally gave up half way through my dressage test on Sunday and just walked out of the arena and back to the lorry park to cry into my boys neck.

It was so pathetic looking back, especially after spending the weekend working at Badminton and seeing some of the best riders in the world tackle one of the hardest challenges in the sport.

I went to a local unaffiliated dressage test with the hopes to qualify for Trailblazers in the summer & forgot my test, even with a reader 🤯 got overwhelmed and raised my arm to the judge, retired and left the arena. Why?

Because I got called in, I was ready to go and Sid felt great! I walked and trotted around for 10 minutes waiting for the judge to ring their bell and start my test but, unbeknown to me at the time, the writer had scribed the notes for from previous class on the wrong test sheets 😑 so they had to rewrite everything before they could start with my test, being the first one in my class.

Within those ten minutes every single negative thought went through my head and honestly, I’d already retired before I started and that small mistake, which would’ve only cost two marks, was the excuse I needed to walk away. But in retrospect it cost us a chance of a qualification!

Anyone who knows me and Sid will know it’s not been an easy journey. We’ve had a few years off competing now and I get so wound up and anxious beforehand I try to wiggle my way out of it in anyway I can.

He was golden though! Probably a little confused at the time, but he had all the pats, treats and cuddles and got to go out and have a pony party somewhere different and then go home and spend the afternoon in the field with his friends in the sun.

This page has always been my personal diary of my time with Sid & I just feel so guilty for letting him down. But after a lovely evening hack after work tonight, clarity came and I realise he honestly doesn’t care. He just wants to go have fun and eat 🤣 so, what do we do next?

Leave the arena on a long rein, and a big smile. Even when you’ve just ridden the worst test you’ve ever ridden 🙃 Because who cares anyways! Your horse had fun tearing around the indoor and you stayed on and laughed all the way through the test.

No pressure here! May is going to be the best month with my boy with a diary full of events 💙 it’s also going to be a spenny one haha! Dentist, saddle fitting, physio & w***y wash. Fun ride this weekend, dressage again next weekend, maybe a bit of showjumping at some point and camp at Somerford at the end of the month too 🤩 oh and he’s 12 year old on Wednesday! So might give him the day off then 😮‍💨

Give us your best kissy face Sidney 😚❤️

Back from a lovely long weekend away in Budapest & first ride after a few days off and spring is springing. And so was Sid!

He managed to pull a shoe whilst I was away - typical! So just a little potter in the school tonight to run through some dressage tests ready for the weekend and the farrier is coming tomorrow.

Hopefully those new shoes won’t stomp on my foot again at the show and we manage to make it into the ring this time 🫠

No truer words have been spoken!!

Anyone else wonder where all the hours go at the yard? 🤯 Come spend an afternoon with us…

From a few weeks ago (pre–fractured foot 🙃)

In my defence, those 5 hours included riding, loading practice and jump-starting + charging the lorry after I forgot to turn the isolator off… standard 🫠

I am SO ready for false spring to do one and actual summer to arrive, because I’ve got big plans for this little dude ☀️
Fun rides, competitions, camp at Somerford, beach trips, and hopefully Trailblazers to finish the summer 🤞

Sidney… 2026 may have started in the most chaotic way (bad weather + you crushing my foot 😭), but this is the year of the horse… and I’m terribly sorry, but you’ve got plans 🤣🐴

Twilight riding 🌅 BST is nearly here!!! Roll on summer.

Don’t forget your why.

We unconditionally commit ourselves to this sport. We sacrifice enormous parts of our lives, and ourselves because we are so passionate about what we love.

But whilst we work, grind and graft to become the best riders and owners we believe our horses deserve, we sometimes forget the most important thing...we forget why.

Why we get up at 3am for a competitions, why we forgo new clothes so our horses can have special shoes, why we get up 2 hours earlier than “normal people” because stables don’t clean themselves, why we invest our hard earned money in saddles, entry fees, supplements and rugs.

We do it because once upon a time, a little kid fell in love with a horse and never looked back.

We do it because these animals bring us incomparable happiness.

They lift us up from the darkest of places and they give us a reason to get out of bed.

They push us, challenge us and shape us into better people by teaching us lessons we’d never learn anywhere else.

They unlock a whole part of us that we never knew existed. A stubborn, determined, strong willed part that refuses to give up.

They keep us grounded, reminding us that sometimes even though certain things may be out of our control, our own actions and emotions never are.

They make us laugh, when we don’t even feel like smiling. They are like warm soup for the soul, they fill our hearts without even trying.

So next time your in the saddle, just take a moment. Breathe, smile, laugh... and don’t forget why ❤️
