Shout out to cockerpoo owners….. please, pleeeeese, pleeeeeese keep on top of your dogs’ grooming! Especially in the summer months. I have done 3 ‘shave offs’ this week 😣 And I really do not want to do anymore. It might sound like an easy process, but you literally have to peel the coat from the skin while trying not to catch or cut the skin (and sometimes you will, especially if you have a wiggly, upset dog)This is very distressing for both dog and groomer …. And if your dog has gotten to the stage that they need a shave off, they have been very uncomfortable for a long time!!!!! When you choose to have a cockerpoo you know that their coat takes work. Brush and comb through at least 3 or 4 times a week. Especially around the neck, chest, top of tail and legs. If you can’t get a comb through their coat, I cannot get a clippers through it.
And even if you are brushing regularly, it is worth a trip to the groomers ever 8-12 weeks. It is really important for their welfare.

It looks like there has been a change to how groomers can operate going forwards 🙁

After a new announcement from the Pif and defra yesterday things need to change. The statement from the Pet Industry Federation now states that groomers can only accept a dog for welfare reasons, welfare reasons may include veterinary advice for skin conditions or excessive matting causing the dog discomfort.
So please keep brushing and COMBING your dogs through until they can be groomed. I would recommend that you not over bath your dogs or use detangling sprays as both can make things worse. However, if your dog has become severely matted they can still be dealt with, so drop me a message and we can chat about what can be done

I know it'll be getting tough keeping on top of your dog's coat, but do please keep on top of it. They will be so much more comfortable, especially as it gets warmer. Loosen the fur with a wire brush or slicker brush ....then comb through....Combing is essential, brushing by itself won't do the trick...good luck and keep up the good work till you can get them to a groomer's again 😊
