With storms rolling through tonight, this felt like the right page to share.

In Chapter 8 of Aidie & Remi, Patch hears loud bangs, panics, and bolts straight out the back door. It’s a scene a lot of dog owners will recognise — noise phobia is one of the most common fear responses in dogs, and it can happen with fireworks, thunder, or anything loud and sudden.

What matters isn’t just recognising that a dog is scared — it’s knowing what to do next. In the story, Kai the vet walks Aidie and Remi through it step by step:

Don’t shout or chase — it only makes a frightened dog run further

Move them to a quiet spot, away from windows and noise
Get low, speak gently, and let the dog choose to come to you

Stay calm yourself — dogs pick up on our energy, especially when they’re scared

These aren’t just nice ideas — they’re the same calm-first approach used in real canine first aid response. Teaching kids this early means they grow up knowing how to actually help a frightened dog, rather than freezing or making things worse without meaning to.

That’s the whole point of the book: giving children real, usable skills for the moments that matter most.

Vet visits — let’s hear it.

If you’ve taken your dog to the vet in the last couple of years, what was it for? Not the routine jabs and boosters, the actual “something’s not right, we need someone to look at this” trips.

Ears? Tummy? Skin? A limp that wouldn’t sort itself out? A lump that turned out to be nothing, or something?

Drop it in the comments. Genuinely curious what’s cropping up most for you lot — and it might just shape what we cover next.

No transition period. No “easing her onto it.” No upset stomach while her gut figured out what to do with real food. Just raw, from the first bowl.

This is what people miss when they’re nervous about switching: it’s not the risky option. It’s the one their gut was built for.

Look at the coat. Look at the muscle definition on a dog that’s not even 5 months old. Look at the eyes — bright, not glazed over from a bowl of ultra-processed filler. That’s not genetics doing all the work. That’s nutrition.

And before anyone says “but is it even safe” — raw dog food in the UK is more heavily regulated than the food on your own plate. APHA testing requirements exist specifically because this industry gets held to a higher standard, not a lower one.

If you’ve been putting off switching because it feels complicated or risky: it isn’t. It’s dinner. Come and talk to us — we’ll show you exactly how to start.

What’s in Kali’s bowl today?

Goose Tripe Offal — a real nutrient bomb of a mix.

Goose brings B vitamins, iron, and zinc to the table, supporting healthy blood, energy, and coat condition. Tripe adds natural digestive enzymes and probiotics that are brilliant for gut health. And the offal rounds it out with vitamin A, more B vitamins, and trace minerals like selenium — supporting immunity, vision, and metabolism.

Three ingredients, one seriously well-rounded meal.

Right, we need your help with something.

Over the years we’ve stocked (and sometimes stopped stocking) a LOT of products — from raw and natural treats to everything in between. Some for good reason — new suppliers, better options, dogs’ needs changing. Some because a supplier hiked their prices and we couldn’t keep it on the shelf at a fair price. Some just because freezer space is tight and tough calls had to be made. Some because everyone started selling it and we refused to get into a price war. (We value your loyalty and our vast experience & knowledge).

So tell us — what did we used to sell that your dogs loved?

Drop it in the comments. We can’t promise we’ll bring everything back, but we’re listening, and a few of these might just make a comeback.

Throwback Thursday 🐩

Before Kali was in charge of quality control, the shop had a different management team.

Meet AJ & Missy — two poodles who took “customer service” very seriously and never once asked for a pay rise. February 2022, back when the counter was their personal boardroom and every visitor got a full inspection before they were allowed to shop.

Big paws to fill, Kali. Big paws to fill.
Comment if you remember these two on shift.
