HOMEMADE FRESH CAT FOOD

It is important to note that homemade cat food must be nutritionally complete and balanced to ensure your cat receives all necessary nutrients, including essential vitamins, minerals, and supplements like taurine. Before starting any homemade diet, you should consult with a veterinarian or a board-certified veterinary nutritionist.
Many vet-approved recipes require the use of specific vitamin/mineral premixes to ensure a balanced diet.
Recipe Example:
😻Basic Chicken and Turkey Formula
This recipe is simple and provides a good starting point, but must be used with a proper feline vitamin premix.
1 pound ground chicken or turkey
2 tablespoons feline vitamin premix
1 teaspoon fish oil (like salmon or sardine oil)
2 eggs (including crushed shells for calcium, if the premix doesn't account for calcium)
Water as needed
Instructions:
Cook the meat thoroughly until the last traces of pink are gone.
Allow the cooked meat to cool to room temperature.
In a separate bowl, whisk the feline vitamin premix and fish oil into a small amount of water to create a slurry.
Combine the cooled meat mixture with the vitamin slurry and mix gently but thoroughly.
Serve or portion into containers for storage.
Recipe Example:
😻Beef and Liver Mixture
This formula emphasizes taurine, an essential amino acid for feline health.
1 pound lean ground beef
4 ounces chicken liver
2 tablespoons bone meal powder (or calcium source if advised by vet)
1 teaspoon taurine supplement powder
Essential vitamin/mineral premix (as directed by the product's instructions)
Instructions:
Cook the ground beef and chicken liver together until fully cooked through.
Once the mixture has cooled, blend or chop it to an appropriate consistency for your cat.
Stir in the bone meal powder, taurine supplement, and vitamin/mineral premix until evenly distributed.
Store in the refrigerator for up to a few days or freeze for longer storage.
Important Considerations
Nutritional Balance: Nutritional deficiencies can be dangerous. It is crucial to use a high-quality, specifically formulated feline supplement or premix (e.g., Know Better Pet Food premix or Balance IT supplement) to ensure a complete diet.
Taurine: Cats cannot synthesize enough taurine on their own and require it in their diet. A lack of taurine can lead to serious health issues, including heart problems.
Variety: Offering a rotation of different protein sources (chicken, beef, salmon, etc.) helps ensure a broader range of nutrients over time.
Storage: Homemade food lacks the preservatives of commercial food. Store it in the refrigerator for a maximum of 2-3 days, or freeze it in individual portions for longer use.

Hayfever in pets

“Hay fever”, or allergic rhinitis, is the most common allergic condition in humans. But can our pets suffer in the same way? It’s unusual, so although they can suffer from allergies to pollen, their immune systems don’t work in exactly the same way as ours. Sneezing and runny noses aren’t common symptoms - usual signs of an allergic reaction in our pets include itching, scratching, recurrent ear infections, scabs and lumps in the skin. Is your pet showing any of these signs? If the answer is ‘yes’, make an appointment to see one of our vets!
