Yesterday me and Lottie returned to work in the pouring rain for our first 121's in 9 weeks!

It was lovely to get back to two of my regulars and see the huge progress they've made during our break:

First was Strawberry (Cocker / Lab cross) who struggles with emotional regulation and anything slow or calm. When I last saw her she would start squeaking after just a few paces of slow lead walking because she found it so hard and frustrating. We used a predictable pattern to help lower arousal levels and reduce frustration and they've been practicing often. Yesterday we saw a huge improvement in the duration of time she can walk alongside her mum with ZERO squeaks. She even came to offer it on several occasions without being asked, when she had the option to zoom around the field instead! Patterns and predictability are essential for dogs who struggle to manage their emotions and arousal levels.

Then it was Ivy and Olive (Cocker sisters) who are typical cockers who love to hunt and occasionally switch their ears off. We started working on turn taking skills so mum can train them individually without having to put one away. Stay in a sit or down on a mat is essential for this. Before our break Olive would immediately spring from her sit and persistently jump the second she thought her mum was going to step away from her. Yesterday mum was going a good five paces away without any stress or errors so we started progressing the sit stay while a ball was being thrown.

Super happy with all the girls' progress 👏

I'm only starting with a couple of sessions three days a week for now while I continue my frustratingly long recovery, but it certainly is good to be back! ♥

I’m very aware that many people are expecting to hear from me in response to emails and messages sent over the last couple of weeks and are waiting for my bookings calendar to reopen.

I would like to thank you all for your patience.

It has been 14 days since my surgery. What was supposed to be the removal of a mass, last measured at 15cm, along with removal of the affected o***y, turned into the removal of a 30cm mass and a total hysterectomy.

Two days before the surgery I said goodbye to my precious boy, Dexter.

The last three weeks have been the hardest of my life, both physically and mentally. I would go through another 15 hysterectomies if it meant I could still have my boy with me.

Due to the extent of the surgery and the nature of my work, I’ll be taking 8 weeks off for recovery so I plan to return to work the week of the 25th May.

For now, I am not yet ready to come out of hibernation. I need another couple of weeks before getting back to calls and admin and sorting my bookings calendar.

I have lots of healing to do 💔

Thank you again and I'll be in touch soon x

💛 Dexter, my precious boy 💛
28.11.11 - 29.3.26

This weekend I’ve enjoyed every last special moment with my boy before saying the hardest goodbye last night.

My first dog. My first loss.
The dog that’s been by my side for most of my adult life. The dog that changed my life and put me on this path. The love of my life that I don’t know how to be without.

Sleep tight my sweet boy.
I will miss you forever 💔

The big day is nearly here!

I am taking the next three days to prepare for surgery and recovery and have an adventure day with my girl, whilst still allowing time for the occasional meltdown!

I will be having surgery on Tuesday and depending on how I'm doing, I'm going to give myself a week or two before I get back to admin tasks.

Task number 1 will be to get my regulars booked in for their regular slots and task number 2 will be to announce the reopening of the bookings calendar to my email list as I know there are many who have been waiting to get booked in so thank you for your patience!

If you'd like to be one of the first to hear when bookings have reopened, head over to the website to join the email list.

I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone for their patience and kindness over the three months. It's been a tough time and you've all made it so much easier ♥

Whilst I am pretty terrified about having my first ever surgery, I cannot wait to stop feeling and looking six months pregnant, and to finally say goodbye to this pesky o***y once and for all!

See you all soon 😘

Saturday was our last day of group training for a few weeks until after my surgery and I already can't wait to get back to it!

Surgery was originally booked for Wednesday, but has been postponed until the 31st March so I'm looking forward to a busy few days of 121 sessions until I finish on Friday.

I should know within the first couple of weeks of April when I'm able to get back to work. As soon as I do, and once I've got my regulars booked in, I'll be sending out a notification to my email list to announce the reopening of the bookings calendar for both 121 sessions and the next Pet Gundog Life Skills course.

If you'd like the opportunity to get booked in before spaces fill up, pop over to the website to join the email list.

I've finally been given a surgery date of Wednesday 25th March.

The bad news is that I've closed my calendar off for the next few weeks until I know more as it's completely full up until I finish.

The good news is that my surgeon is going to try for keyhole to reduce recovery time and hopefully get me back to work quicker 🤞

The even better news is, there are no signs so far that the mass is malignant. I’ll still need to wait for 6-weeks post-op to have it completely ruled out, but this is the best news I've had for a while so I’ll take it!

Depending on how the surgery goes, I’ll either be returning to work at the end of April or the end of May. I’ll reopen my calendar at the end of March once I know how long I'll need for recovery.

I have left my call calendar open for the next four weeks for anyone who would like to chat about their dog and what we'll be able to do together once I'm back to work. You can book a free call on the website.

Thank you again for all the messages I've received since sharing my news, I'm so very grateful.

And a massive thank you to my amazing clients who have been so understanding and have rescheduled sessions to accommodate hospital appointments and the surgery.

It’s been a rough couple of months but now that I've got my surgery date and had such a positive update, I'm feeling great!

I just can’t wait to get in, get it out, and get on with having the BEST rest of the year!
