Wednesday eve, I will be doing a presentation all about why our puppies bite and how we can help them.

It’s not because they are trying to dominate us!

There are so many reasons why they need to use their little needly teeth on us;
Hunger, over excited, over aroused, over tired, bored, wanting to play, trying to tell you that they don’t like what you are doing to them... and their little baby gums are hurting!

They have 28 baby teeth to lose to make room for 42 adult teeth. That is a lot of sore gums.

There are so many reasons why our puppies bite!

Not limited to:

They are exploring their world- they don’t have hands to pick things up to feel.

They are learning about bite pressure

They are learning social skills

They want your attention

They are tired

They are hungry

They are trying to communicate with you, they might not like something you are doing to them, petting or playing with them

They are playing

They have really sore mouths! Their little gums lose 28 tiny teeth to make room for 42 teeth before they are 6/7 months old.

If your dog is excitable when someone opens the door and enters, then have some yummie treats on you.

As soon as you enter, throw a generous amount of your dog`s favourite food AWAY from the doorway.

Sniffing and finding the food lowers excitement.

Once your dog is collecting the food, you can enter without the jumping up.

This game needs to be repeated a few times every day.

Remember! It takes 21 days to build up a new habit.

Why are we more impatient with our dogs than with ourselves?
