Our vet Laurence is passionate about pet travel โœˆ๏ธ๐Ÿพ As an OV66 registered veterinarian, he can carry out checks for Australian exports โ€” helping to significantly reduce quarantine times under new legislation this year.

Hereโ€™s Newton, who came in for his OV66 check (and a little photo shoot with that winning smile!) before heading off to Australia later this year ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ’›

We are aware of a few videos circulating social media at the moment regarding ibuprofen ingestion in dogs.

Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is commonly used in people for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with aches and pains, headache, cramps and for the relief of mild fever.

Ibuprofen is a very widely available over-the-counter painkiller. Although well tolerated in people, dogs are very sensitive to ibuprofen and ingestion of even a relatively low dose can cause adverse effects on the gut and the kidneys. A very large overdose can even cause very rapid onset features including convulsions.

โ˜Ž๏ธOwners can call Animal PoisonLine on 01202 509000 if they are concerned about their pet.

We do not recommend the administration of any human medications without prior consultation with your veterinary surgeon.

๐Ÿ’ฌ True or False? Veterinary nurses just cuddle the animals and clean kennels?

โŒ FALSE! โŒ While they do offer comfort and care (and yes, the occasional cuddle!), vet nurses are qualified clinical professionals who are essential to the running of every veterinary practice.

Their role includes:
โœ” Monitoring anaesthesia
โœ” Assisting in surgery
โœ” Running diagnostic tests
โœ” Administering treatments
โœ” Educating pet owners

This Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month, letโ€™s celebrate the real work our amazing vet nurses do every day! ๐Ÿ’š

How lovely, Toad, we're so glad you've found your forever home with Sally ๐Ÿฅฐ

Meet Toad โ€“ from garden stray to pampered lap cat ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

Toad was brought into our practice after spending 4 years living as a stray in someoneโ€™s garden. He arrived severely underweight (just 3.2kg) and suffering with respiratory issues.

After a full examination and blood tests, we discovered Toad is FIV positive (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) โ€“ a condition that means heโ€™ll need to stay indoors or in a secure garden, and be closely monitored for any illnesses due to his compromised immune system.

But Toadโ€™s story has a very happy ending ๐Ÿ’ซ He was quickly fostered by Sally, one of our amazing RVNs, who works alongside Cats Protection League. It didnโ€™t take long for everyone to realise heโ€™d already found his forever home โ€“ and Sally officially adopted him! ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ’•

Toad is now a healthy 5kg, his respiratory issues are well managed, and heโ€™s living the dream as a very happy (and very loved) lap cat. ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ๐Ÿ’–

THIS NATIONAL PET MONTH...

๐Ÿ† Meet Niamh ! ๐Ÿพ Niamh belongs to our very own Dianne (RVN) and is a stunning Azawakh โ€” a rare and ancient sighthound breed from West Africa, known for their incredible speed, loyalty, and guarding instincts. With only around 40 Azawakhs in the UK and just 1,500 worldwide, sheโ€™s truly one of a kind! ๐ŸŒโœจ

This year, Niamh made us proud by taking 2nd place in her class at Crufts and spent four days as a wonderful ambassador for her breed at Discover Dogs ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ…

When sheโ€™s not winning hearts and ribbons, youโ€™ll find her racing across the local nature reserve or keeping a close eye out from the window โ€” no passerby goes unnoticed! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿพ
Sheโ€™ll be celebrating her 3rd birthday in November and, of course, sheโ€™ll be hoping for plenty of her favourite treatโ€ฆ sausage! ๐ŸŒญ๐ŸŽ‰

Your Easter trolley might be full of delicious treats โ€” but some of them can be dangerous for your pets ๐Ÿ›’๐Ÿพ If you're stocking up this weekend, make sure to keep these out of pawsโ€™ reach:

๐Ÿซ Chocolate eggs โ€“ toxic to dogs and cats
๐Ÿฌ Sugar-free sweets (like jelly beans) โ€“ may contain xylitol
๐Ÿž Hot cross buns โ€“ raisins and sultanas are highly toxic to dogs
๐Ÿง„ Onions & garlic โ€“ can cause serious illness in cats and dogs
๐Ÿ– Cooked lamb bones โ€“ can splinter and cause internal injuries
๐Ÿท Alcohol โ€“ even a small amount can be harmful or fatal to pets

Keep cupboards shut, counters clear, and baskets up high ๐Ÿ“ฒ Tag a fellow pet parent to spread the word! Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and pet-safe Easter! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿฃ
