Before we unclip, we build the brakes.

Recall is important.

But sometimes, calling your dog back is not the safest option.

If your dog is heading towards a road, another dog, a cyclist, a football game, or a child holding a hotdog with absolutely no survival instincts…

You may need your dog to stop.

Not eventually.

Not when they have finished investigating.

Not after they have completed their emotional squirrel journey.

You need a proper emergency stop.

That is why Unleashed & Unstoppable does not start with “let them off and hope for the best.”

We build the brakes first.

We teach your dog that stopping, thinking and responding to you is valuable.

Because it can save a life.

Then we build the other pieces around it:

Recall.
Engagement.
Proximity.
Disengagement.
Calmness around distractions.

Because off lead freedom should not feel like chaos with a whistle.

It should feel like teamwork.

Want help building safer off lead skills?

Come and join Unleashed & Unstoppable Tuesday June 23rd at 5pm. Class is £85 for the full 4 week course.

Off lead freedom is about more than recall.

Yes, recall matters.

Of course it does.

But true off lead freedom is not just about whether your dog comes back when you call them.

It is about whether your dog can make good choices when you have not called them yet.

Can they notice a distraction and stay connected to you?

Can they move away from something exciting?

Can they check in without being asked?

Can they choose you when the world is doing its very best to be interesting?

That is what we work on in Unleashed & Unstoppable.

We build the skills behind safe, happy off lead adventures:

Engagement.
Proximity.
Disengagement.
Calmness.
Emergency stop.
Reliable recall.

Because before we unclip the lead, we want your dog to have the skills to cope with freedom.

Unleashed & Unstoppable is for dogs who need help building that trust, focus and connection out in the real world.

Want off lead freedom that feels safer, calmer and less like a prayer to the dog gods?

Come and join us. Unleashed starts Tuesday 23rd at 5pm

Does your dog lose their tiny mind when guests come over?

The door goes.
The barking starts.
The paws go up.
The excitement explodes.

And before you know it, your guest is wearing your dog like a furry scarf.

Jumping up is often an excitement problem, not a “naughty dog” problem.

Your dog may genuinely love people, but loving people at 100mph can still be a lot.

In Peaceful Pups, we help dogs build the skills they need around exciting things.

Calmness.
Boundaries.
Disengagement.
Thinking in arousal.
Recovering after big feelings.

Because the goal is not to squash your dog’s personality.

It is to help them cope better when life gets exciting.

Peaceful Pups starts Tuesday 23rd June at 6pm. Class is £85 for the full 4 week course.

Does your dog steal things for attention?

Socks.
Tea towels.
Shoes.
The TV remote.
Something wildly inappropriate from the laundry basket.

Sometimes dogs get up to mischief because they are bored.

Sometimes it is because they have learned it gets a big reaction.

And sometimes it is because they are just too switched on and don’t know what to do with all that energy.

When we build calmness, we are not trying to create a boring dog.

We are helping your dog learn that not every moment needs to become an event.

In Peaceful Pups, we work on the skills underneath the behaviour:

Settling.
Disengaging.
Making good choices.
Recovering after excitement.
Learning how to do nothing.

Because “doing nothing” is actually a very useful life skill.

Peaceful Pups starts Tuesday 23rd June.

Some dogs don’t “just settle.” Some dont have the ability to switch off.

They pace.
They follow you everywhere.
They stare.
They bark.
They potter.
They get up the second you move.
They seem exhausted but still can’t stop.

And honestly? That is hard to live with.

But calmness is not always something dogs naturally know how to do.

For some dogs, calmness is a skill that needs to be taught, practised and reinforced, just like recall or loose lead walking.

That is what Peaceful Pups is all about.

We grow calmness as a priority, so your dog can learn how to switch off, rest, recover and make better choices at home and out in the real world.

Peaceful Pups starts Tuesday 23rd June - we grow an 'off switch' in our dogs.

Does your dog bark at everything?

The window.
The neighbours.
The postie.
A leaf having the audacity to move outside.

Barking can feel like a “stop it!” problem.

But often, barking is actually information.

It can tell us your dog is too switched on, too full, too worried, too frustrated, too excited, or simply doesn’t know what else to do with themselves.

In Peaceful Pups, we don’t just try to silence the barking.

We look at the bigger picture.

We teach dogs how to settle, disengage, recover, and make better choices when life gets exciting.

Because when calmness grows, barking often reduces too.

Peaceful Pups starts Tuesday 23rd June at 6pm in The White Hut in Cwmbran.

Want to understand where to start? Download the freebie and see how calmness can change the picture.

☀️ Heatwave incoming? Time to help our dogs keep their cool.

Hot weather can be really uncomfortable for dogs, and sometimes the kindest thing we can do is less.

Less walking.
Less rushing around.
Less pressure to “do something.”

More shade.
More water.
More rest.
More calm little boredom-busters.

Try:

💧 Frozen lick mats
🐾 Paddle pool play
🌳 Sniffy walks early morning or later evening
🧊 Frozen treats or ice cubes
🏡 Indoor games instead of midday walks
🧺 Cooling mats or damp towels
🥣 Fresh water in a few different spots
🕵️ Garden treasure hunts in the shade

And please remember: pavements can get painfully hot.

Heatwave days are not training-failure days.

They are slow-down, stay-safe, sniff-in-the-shade days. 💜

Calling all Cwmbran/Newport dog owners…

I’m planning my June group classes at Muttley Crew Dog Training and I’d love to know what you and your dogs need most.

I already have spaces planned for:

🐾 Puppy Power
For new puppies who need help with biting, jumping, toilet training, confidence, calmness and all those “what have I done?” early puppy moments.

🐾 Awesome Adolescents
For teenage dogs who have suddenly forgotten everything they ever learned, started pulling, barking, ignoring you, launching at life, or generally giving big “I make my own choices now” energy.

🐾 Sunday Club
For dogs who have done some training before and want to keep building real-life skills in a fun, supportive way.

I’m also looking at adding a few of these in June:

🐾 Lead Legends
For dogs who pull like tiny freight trains and humans who would quite like their shoulders to stay attached.

🐾 Peaceful Pups
For dogs who struggle to settle, switch off, relax around distractions, or cope with busy everyday life.

🐾 Unleashed & Unstoppable
For recall, check-ins, off-lead freedom and building a dog who actually wants to stay in your orbit.

All classes are kind, reward-based, force-free and focused on building confidence, calmness and real-life skills.

No judgement. No shouting. No “pack leader” nonsense. Just practical training that helps you and your dog understand each other better.

If you’re local and would like June class info, comment “JUNE” below or follow Muttley Crew Dog Training so you don’t miss the dates when they go live.

Worried about your dog and your baby?

I have a support package for new parents and parents to be who are nervous about bringing a baby into a home with a dog.

Because honestly?

We need to stop putting fairytale expectations on relationships between dogs and children.

It’s unfair on dogs.

A dog and a baby sharing a home isn’t automatically cute or magical, it can sometimes be really very hard!

It’s a multi-species household with a dog, or dogs, and one tiny, noisy, smelly and often cranky tiny human.

New noises.
New smells.
New movements.
New objects.
New routines.
New emotions.

For a dog, that can be a lot to process.

Harmony doesn’t come from hoping your dog will “just know.”

It doesn’t come from expecting them to tolerate everything because they’re “good with kids.”

It comes from skills.

The ability to settle, disengage, move away, wait, recover from novelty, and feel safe while life changes around them.

The goal isn’t a perfect fairytale bond.

The goal is a household where your baby is safe, your dog feels safe, and you’re not relying on luck, guesswork, or “they’ll be fine.”

My New Baby & Dog Support Package is for you if:

You’re pregnant and worried how your dog will cope.
You’ve recently brought your baby home and things feel tense.
Your dog is barking, unsettled, clingy, worried or over-excited.
You want to prepare properly before baby arrives.
You want kind, practical support without judgement.

We’ll look at your dog, your home, your routines, your worries, and the skills your dog needs to feel safe and settled as family life changes.

Because when we remove the pressure for dogs and children to perform some perfect bond, we make room for something much better:

Skills.
Trust.
Safety.
Choice.
Calm cohabitation.

That’s where the real harmony lives.

If you’re expecting a baby, have recently welcomed one, or you’re worried about your dog around children, drop me a message and we can chat about support.

I have raised children and dogs, its not always easy, but I can help!
