Jeff came to find me, back in October 2024 - he’d taken a phone call from a lady who wanted to re-home her Mother in Law’s old Chihuahua. I rang her back and arranged for her to pop along with the wee one, the following afternoon.
There she was - a funny coloured Chihuahua with a curved spine and spindly legs. I had made the decision to take her, well before she arrived, but on setting eyes on her, I knew she was already home.
Within the first couple of weeks, she’d had a dental as her teeth were shocking and we found out she had a heart murmur.
Affectionately called Minnie Roundabout and Queen of the Kitchen Table she made her presence very known. She was ferocious with everyone and wouldn’t let them touch her without her biting them. She ruled from her bed on the table, whilst we would all be smooshed up with 2cm’s each. She would only eat freshly roasted chicken and would sell her soul for a Jammie Dodger.
You know you’ve a Queen of the Kitchen Table when you have long conversations about how you’re going to have Christmas Dinner, without disturbing her - pointless conversations because we all ended up squashed, one end of the table, whilst Minnie lorded up the other half; us practically sitting on each other’s laps.
Minnie lived her life, just as she wanted - she didn’t do anything she didn’t want to do. She spent this weekend, on Ciara’s lap, under a blanket by the fire.
Today, I kissed her sweet head, one last time - Kingdom vets did everything they could and I am so grateful to them for trying as hard as they did. Thing was, her heart was weak and she was struggling to breath.
I shall miss her so very much - I knew she was on borrowed time but I really wish she could be here with us, for the next eleventy billion years.
Rest easy, Minnie - you were an excellent Queen. ❤️
