I’ve always known Digby was clear for Lafora (via parentage) but the other day I heard that 20% of Bassets in the UK are carriers, so decided before matings that I would always test for this regardless of the parents status.

Clear = no risk
1 copy = no risk of having Lafora but must be mated to a clear dog or a risk of passing it on
2 copies = an increased risk of Lafora in these dogs, bred to a clear dog they will always have carriers so any offspring must be mated to clears to irradiate it from your lines

Announcement!!

I’m going to be helping out with and raising a litter here, by Digby, but to a visiting bitch (a red and white Kc show Basset) they have had two litters previously and I have met many of them and they have been wonderful and not extreme at all, but they are full Kc show Bassets, so will be heavier than the type of hound I usually breed. The litter will be raised here by me (due to unforeseen circumstances) this has already been agreed with my licensing authority and I know mum quite well.

If you are on my list and would consider a heavier type of puppy then please get in touch, it doesn’t matter where you are on the list but it matters you are already approved, these puppies are due mid June, to go home mid August and will be endorsed.

This is why it’s so important to let your puppy be off lead were safe in the follow phase, so it becomes normal at the stage that they are imprinting and terrified to lose you, so many people wait until the 6-8 month mark or beyond and that’s when your dog is testing boundaries.

Ever since Olive had her bacterial infection, she has had a little bedtime dinner just incase and now it’s a habit, so this is her usual position after 8pm by the kitchen door, waiting for her snacky poos, that she no longer needs but I feel too mean to take them away from her 🤣
