Today's Airedale Handstrip ✋️
Mocha came to us at Woozelbears Hydrotherapy and Grooming for a handstrip with myself, Lauren and Maddie. She was an absolute superstar throughout her groom and looked stunning after her Handstrip.
🐕 *What is hand stripping?* 🐕
Hand stripping is a dog grooming technique that involves manually plucking dead or loose outer coat hair by hand (or using a stripping knife) rather than cutting it with clippers, specifically for wire-haired breeds. This process removes hair from the root to maintain a harsh coat texture, vibrant color, and healthy skin.
Key Aspects of Hand Stripping:
🐾 Purpose: It mimics natural shedding, prevents the hair follicles from becoming clogged with dead hair, and allows new, strong wire hair to grow in.
🐕 Suitability: Primarily used on wired-haired breeds like Terriers (Border, Lakeland, Irish), Schnauzers, and Wire-haired Dachshunds.
👎Is It Painful? When done correctly, hand stripping is painless because the hair being removed is already dead and ready to fall out.
👍Benefits: It keeps the coat bright and coarse, prevents softening or fading caused by clipping, and keeps the skin healthy.
