🎉 Fun Fact Friday: Anteaters! 🐜🦴

Did you know anteaters can eat up to 30,000 ants and termites in a single day? 😲

Their super-long sticky tongues can flick in and out around 150 times per minute, making them expert insect catchers! 👅⚡

Even though they have huge claws, anteaters don’t have any teeth at all — they squash their food using their strong stomachs instead. Nature is wild! 🌿✨

Fleas and ticks may be tiny, but they can cause big problems for our pets 🐾

Preventative treatment is the best way to protect your pet from itching, skin infections and diseases carried by parasites. Even indoor pets can be affected, so year-round protection is important.

As the weather gets warmer, we also start to see an increase in cases of fly strike in rabbits ☀️🐰

Fly strike is a very serious and potentially fatal condition where flies lay eggs on a rabbit, usually around the bottom area. These eggs hatch into maggots extremely quickly and can cause severe pain, infection, and shock.

Rabbits most at risk include:
🐇 Overweight rabbits
🐇 Elderly rabbits
🐇 Rabbits with dental issues or mobility problems
🐇 Rabbits with messy bottoms or urine scalding

Signs to look out for:
⚠️ A dirty or wet bottom
⚠️ Strong smell
⚠️ Maggots visible in the fur
⚠️ Lethargy or not eating
⚠️ Sudden distress or discomfort

Prevention is key:
✅ Check your rabbit’s bottom at least twice daily
✅ Keep hutches clean and dry
✅ Ensure a healthy diet to maintain good digestion
✅ Groom regularly, especially long-haired rabbits
✅ Speak to us about preventative treatments if your rabbit is at risk

Fly strike can develop in just a few hours, especially during warm weather, so please contact us immediately if you have any concerns.

Meet Will I Am 🐾❤️

Will I Am is one of our lovely Boxer boys who has been visiting the clinic for many years for his regular nail clips. He’s a familiar, much-loved face through the doors and always knows exactly where he’s going when he arrives!

He’s such a calm, gentle boy during his visits and has truly become part of the furniture here. All the team absolutely adore him and always look forward to seeing his happy face.

It’s dogs like Will I Am who make the day a little brighter — loyal, sweet, and full of character every time he comes in.

We can’t wait to see you again soon, handsome boy 💙🐶

With the warm weather arriving for the Bank Holiday weekend, please remember that heat stroke can become life-threatening very quickly in our pets ☀️🐶

Dogs can overheat in minutes — especially during walks, car journeys, or even relaxing in the garden on hot days. Flat-faced breeds, older pets, overweight pets, and those with underlying health conditions are at even greater risk.

Signs of heat stroke can include:
🐾 Excessive panting
🐾 Drooling
🐾 Lethargy or weakness
🐾 Vomiting or diarrhoea
🐾 Collapse or seizures

Top tips to keep pets safe this weekend:
💧 Always provide fresh water
🌳 Walk early morning or late evening
🚫 Never leave pets in cars — even for a few minutes
🏖️ Make sure they have access to shade and cool areas
🔥 Avoid hot pavements that can burn paws

If you think your pet may be suffering from heat stroke, move them somewhere cool, offer small amounts of water, and contact your vet immediately.

Little Rufus came in to see us for his 2nd puppy vaccine 🐶💉

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of looking after lovely Tommy the Toy Poodle 🐩💙

Tommy came in for his castration and umbilical hernia repair, and he was an absolute gentleman throughout his stay with us. He was such a brave boy and quickly became a favourite with the team thanks to his sweet nature and perfect manners!

We hope you’ve recovered well, Tommy, and are enjoying being thoroughly spoiled at home 🐾✨
