🌧️🐾 Did you know that walks after the rain can be extra exciting for your dog?🌧️🐾

Rainfall helps trap and intensify scent particles close to the ground, creating a whole new world of smells for our canine friends to explore. Since dogs experience the world largely through their noses, a post-rain walk can provide fantastic mental enrichment as they investigate all the interesting scents left behind🐽🐾

Just remember to towel dry muddy paws afterwards and keep an eye out for puddles, as some may contain bacteria or contaminants.

Does your dog become a super-sniffer after a rainy walk? Let us know in the comments!📸

Enyo the Collie X recently visited us to be neutered! 🐾

She was a very well behaved patient throughout her stay and recovered smoothly following surgery.
Enyo enjoyed some post-operative treats and cuddles with SVN Hester before heading home to continue her recovery🩺

Neutering is a routine procedure that offers a number of long-term health benefits, including preventing unwanted pregnancies, eliminating the risk of pyometra (a serious uterine infection), and reducing the risk of certain reproductive cancers.

Ben the Golden Retriever had his teeth scaled and polished.

Ben has his teeth regularly brushed and it really showed, because his teeth were in fantastic condition for a 9 year old! 🪥🦷

We removed some plaque and tartar in the areas that are difficult to reach, leaving Ben with a beautiful white smile 😁

🐾 Hugo the Fox Red Labrador 🐾

Poor Hugo has been experiencing some recurrent lameness in one of his front legs, so today he visited the practice for some digital imaging to help us investigate further.

Hugo was such a brave boy throughout his procedure and was rewarded afterwards with a lovely little walk in the shade 💚🐶

Who can guess what's happened with this urine sample?👀🐾

Ellie came to see us after experiencing frequent urination. Her urine sample was very dark brown and contained a lot of mucus.

After running in-house tests, we discovered a significant number of urinary crystals, as well as blood in the sample.

This was most likely caused by a urinary tract infection (UTI), which can make the urine become too alkaline and lead to crystal formation.

After a course of antibiotics, plenty of rest over the bank holiday weekend, and lots of TLC, Ellie is now on the mend and starting to feel much better 💕

It’s important to have your pet checked by a vet if you notice any changes in their drinking or urination habits. Recurring urinary infections can be very uncomfortable and may become more difficult to treat if left too long. Thankfully, Ellie’s infection was caught early 🐾

☀️ Bank Holiday Monday reminder ☀️

Please remember that while we’re enjoying the sunshine, the heat can become dangerous for our pets very quickly.

Just a few minutes of running around, playing fetch or overexcitement in warm weather can lead to heat stroke — especially in dogs.

🐾 Hot pavements, concrete and sand can also burn paws - if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

To help keep pets safe:
💧 Walk dogs early morning or later in the evening
💧 Keep exercise short and gentle
💧 Make sure fresh water and shade are always available
💧 Avoid hot surfaces where possible
💧 Never leave pets in cars — even for a few minutes

Signs of heat stroke include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, collapse or confusion.

If you are worried your pet has overheated today please call Arthur Lodge 24 Hours on 01403252964

We are back open as normal tomorrow at 8am.
