Just over 24 hours to go! 👌

Our first Games Day of the year at Elevate 💪

This isn’t about who’s the fastest, strongest or fittest..

It’s celebrating what our members can do and bringing them together to lift, sweat, have a laugh and eat a bit of cake afterwards 🎂

Rocco the Cane Corso came to us back in December last year with severe reactivity towards people and dogs and bad lead manners.

Over 3 months later and he’s still smashing it!
I’m so pleased to hear his owners have kept up with his training!

Meet Bear!
A beautiful Dutch Herder.
His owner reached out to us regarding his reactivity towards people as they weren’t having any luck with other trainers.
Upon arrival Bear was barking, lunging, growling etc, I could even stroke him without the risk of being bitten.

After offering a few pointers to the owners and explained a bit about his behaviour and why he’s behaving that way we was able to make some progress.
By the end of the session I was able to stroke, feed him some kibble and he even got offered some belly rubs. It was a great session! I look forward to the future ones.

Meet Spud!

We recently had him come stay for a week just for boarding, we have been working for spud for some time now starting with some home visits and some walks, few hours stay at our place and then 1 night stays all leading up to his week here with us.

Since spuds owners got him from the breeders he has always been a nervous dog, he’s bark and growl at anyone who came into the home or near him. If you attempted to stroke him he’d attempt to bite you (not out of aggression).

Leading up to his stay I have been able to stroke him and engage with him but other people couldn’t, just 3 days into his stay he really came out of his shell becoming really affectionate and enjoyed a good cuddle. He even let children and strangers stroke him without a single growl.

It was such a pleasure to have spud come and stay! We look forward to having him stay in the future.

Recently I got the pleasure to work with Oreo the Lakeland terrier!

After several misguided sessions your typical FF trainer advising to just ‘throw treats onto the ground’ I was able to educate, demonstrate and observe how to correct the unwanted behaviours in just the one session.

It’s getting reviews like this that make it all worth it.

We will be suspending our reactive dog walks for the foreseeable weeks due to obtaining a foot injury.

Our standard dog walks and group walks are still operating, most clients have been contacted already but I’ll get to the rest of you this afternoon.

The unfortunate truth of owning and running a business.

Running a business is really hard.

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.

Friends and family will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.

You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work life balance. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner..... All whilst being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend... it’s one of the hardest things you will try and balance

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5 years or relationships fall apart. If they are successful they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.

Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient, support small businesses…….and hopefully more of us will stick around!

One of the best things you can do for a dog of any age is give them a place to escape the bull s**t. Puppy, grown dog, senior dog… they all need a place to get away from this ridiculous world we expect them to adapt to.

Imagine, if you will, someone put a lock on your bedroom door and said “nope, you have to be in the living room with your kids and spouse and company at all times”. You’d go crazy too. 😂🤷‍♀️

Now imagine no one in the room speaks the same language as you. 😳

Meet Spud! He is a staffie x Rhodesian ridgeback. His owners rescued him and wanted to give him a new start in life and getting him trained properly from the start.

Spud was extraordinary with his progress and in just 3 sessions we had covered all the commands and how to adjust him to a home life, lead walking, recall, socialising and a small amount of lead reactivity.

His owners have been great examples, keeping up his training religiously which made moving on to the next steps in his training much easier. Great work guys!!

I’m glad Spud has found his happy home!!

There's an idiology that everything can be solved with positive only dog training.

If this were the case we would all be doing it.

Even if it were the case, it could take months to years to gain the understanding you want to achieve.

Even one cell organisms understand that you go towards things you like and move away from things that make you feel uncomfortable. This doesn't mean you need to swing a dog around in the air.

It's more about finding something that helps to break the fixation. Then reinforcing that.

If you told your child not to do something and they kept doing it. You'd have to go up a level to show said child you mean what you say. It's no different to your reactive dog.

1 week in to Ellie’s residential and I must say he progress is outstanding! The first day she was so anxious and nervous, not just of dogs but people too. She was reactive to dogs as we walked by. And just a week later she is such a happy dog, will let people pet her (properly and with my consent) and she can also walk and play with other dogs. This here is Ellie (left) a Romanian Rescue who is my current residential staying to be trained for her reactivity towards other dogs, Asha is the German shepherd on the right who is also reactive towards other dogs. Asha’s owner needed someone to walk her but has been refused by other dog walkers due to her behaviour and size. This is the result of our walk together, now it didn’t start off as smoothly as there was obviously some growling and barking going on at the start (I blame the camera operator for not getting it on camera 😂) We were able to walk side by side for an hour with barely any reactions after the initial greeting! Teaching your dogs to walk on a lead is important before teaching off lead walking and recall. Meet whiskey, whiskey developed some reactivity towards people ever since her owner was hit by a car and knocked out of her wheelchair. When working with dogs whose owners aren’t able bodied we have adjust the style of training we use and adapt it so that the owner is able to continue going forward on their own. *disclaimer* this is by no means any guide dog or assisted living dog training. This is just adjusting existing techniques so that the owner is able to have a pet and still keep it under control. Just by making a few minor adjustments we were able to walk through a busy town centre and with no reactivity, focus was on point through the remainder of the walk. Most reputable trainers will be experienced in more than one method of training so we can adapt to the dogs and the owners needs. Sometimes the tools you prefer to use aren’t always suitable for the circumstances you’re faced with. We train all dogs of shapes and sizes and any behaviours.
