Critical basics!

Standard shoeing with a machine made shoe. Concentrating on the basic critical elements to make a solid/sound job.

1. Find the shape of the foot.
2. Fit the shoe to compliment the foot’s shape.
3. A good burn to work off.
4. Nail and finish.

The frog has been treated with iodine (red) to manage any bacteria.

Driving shoes🔨🏁

This small cob needs some functional shoes for its driving activities. 11 inches of flat section for some small thick shoes!

Always good to get your own shoes on and get them worn out 👌

Very satisfying feeling getting handmade concave bar on the hoof!

Concave bar/horseshoes are a fundamental part of farriery and where all farriers learn the basic elements of shoemaking. 👌

Hoof oil 🧴

Aron Tyler hoof oil is a great final finish for the shoeing process!

With summer starting to arrive and the ground drying out it’s important to treat and protect the outer hoof wall. I will have Tyler’s hoof oil stocked on the van and will be supplying it. Inquire at your next appointment if needed 👌

A false sole is a thickened collection of h***y sole which normally sits in the concavity of the hoof capsule. This needs to be removed to get to true/live sole and to remove excess growth from the hoof wall.

Hunter!

Hunter shoeing is a style of shoeing in which the shoe is fitted to the perimeter out line of the foot and uses the modification of hunter heels, this is to minimise catching/pulling of the shoe.

This is to complement the discipline or work being done by the horse. Which is normally due to the environment/terrain the horse has to work in (muddy).

Love working with different styles of shoeing for each horses particular job, but needless to say looking forward to the summer and the end of all this wet/mud 😂

Appointments!

Unfortunately I’m having an above average amount of appointments being forgotten or no shows.

Can everyone please check/remember there appointments. Work is over busy at the moment which I’m chuffed with but means I have to keep my diary very organised and efficient to get all the horses sorted to then have personal time. Every missed appointment will then be taken out of my personal time.

The majority of my customers are doing great and please keep up the normal approach of having the horse presented well ready for the appointment time.
