Check the hooves!

Close call here with a screw wedged in the back of the frog but no harm done 🫣

It’s great horses can be turned out more this time of year but don’t forget to check/pick your horses feet out in the field 👍

Upping the work load 🏃‍♂️

This horse needed abit more material to keep up with its summer activities. A 3/4 fullered style shoe with a thicker section to make the shoes last between appointments! 👌

Hoof boot! 🥾

I am now providing hoof boot fitting service.

Hoof boots may benefit horses with weak feet which can’t take shoes.
Older horses which struggle to be shod.
An alternative option for horses which shoes are not appropriate but the horse still needs hoof protection.

There is a range of boots to suit different circumstances and needs. Here is the range which will be used:
• Cavallo
• Equine fusion
• Explora
• Flex boots
• Scoot boot

🪨 hard ground 🪨

With the change in weather and environment the ground has gone very hard and unforgiving.

Some shod horses are feeling the ground or struggling with working in these conditions.

My personal go to is a sole pack which offers support, coverage and protection. In addition I use a copper sulphate pack which helps against any bacteria build up (Why it’s blue).

Boots 🥾

Had a great day on the hoof boot fitting workshop! Ran by the hoof boot shop through the BFBA.

Was fantastic to learn about different brand/styles of boots and how they suit different horses. I believe that boots definitely have a place and benefit a selection of horses!

I would like to offer a boot fitting service in the near future as it will be another option for hoof care and can only benefit the horse!

Once I’m set up with a range of fitting kits I will be offering hoof boot fitting appointments!

As a Farrier I will get presented with problems and issues with horses which need figuring out.

Sometimes a solution can be as straight forward as the base material used.

For this case the horse (Jade) struggled with tripping and stumbling when being worked. Without any shoe modifications or any drastic changes to the actual hoof. The plan was using aluminium shoes instead of steel.

The result was very positive (no tripping) and consistent over the last few shoeing cycles 👍

For reference aluminium is about 1/3 of the weight of steel and has a better strength to weight ratio!

Really good hoof pick with a brush. Is discounted at the moment. Worth a look if in need of one or a better hoof pick 🦶

Lami Tag

A fantastic new tool to help monitor the horses pulse, in the form of a pulse detector which is easily applied and linked to an app for readings.

The Lami Tag is a great idea and useful asset when monitoring the pulse, which is a factor of laminitis.
