To end the day it's sweetheart Wilbur who still prefers the safety of his 'bedroom' to anywhere else. It's all on the cats terms when they come into Fagin's care & as Wilbur is part of the kitchen gang there's no rush at all.

Mum cat Saffy had a restless night without her kittens & trashed her pen & hasn't eaten much today. She doesn't understand where they have gone. The viral thing she had is passing, her eyes are still sore & as you can see from her nose she is still sneezing. She will receive lots of cuddles & reassurance bless her.

**heartbreaking images.**
We are terribly upset to share with you the news that Saffy's kittens were euthanased just before 1am this morning. After their vet visit first thing Clare continually tried to encourage Saffy to feed her kittens whilst also trying to bottle feed them but they wouldn't latch on or use their suck reflex. Throughout the day they lost weight, were lethargic & Saffy ignored them more & more. Mid evening Grae took the little family to the emergency vets in the hope they could be tube fed. It was found their breathing rate had slowed considerably & that basically their tiny tired bodies were shutting down. I drove down to the emergency vets & the kind compassionate vet talked us through what was happening. We are a vet led rescue & always put what is clinically best for cats & kittens in our care above our emotional need to try everything. The vet gave each kitten a sedative & they gently became sleepy as Grae held them before a final injection which helped them leave this life.
Reunited at Rainbow Bridge with their sister Pandora, Dave & Doodle/ Oliver & Nancy/ Kaia & Keifer (yes they really did have 3 different names in their short lives) will be laid to rest near their sister by Fagin's.
Many thanks to Godiva Veterinary Clinic & Vets Now for their excellent care of the little family. Saffy will return to fosters Mel & Ben where she will be monitored for possible mastitis & nursed as she recovers. Does the poor little Mum cat know her kittens have gone, will she mourn them, we don't know.
This is the grim reality of kitten season. The abandonment of unneutered cats, the suffering & often sad outcome. Vet care & careful nurturing by fosterers that can end in heartbreak because a person didn't care enough about their cat.

*DONATION APPEAL*
Unfortunately overnight Saffy became quite uninterested in her babies and we had to step in with a bottle and kitten formula every couple of hours. Grae took the family back at Godiva Veterinary Clinic again this morning where the babies saw Jordan & received another dose of subcutaneous fluids and vitamin shots (they are also still on a course of antibiotics). In the hopes that we won't have to separate the family we've moved them to a larger pen to see if it makes Saffy more comfortable and keener to nurse. We have also bought a cool humidifier to ease their congestion and have extra hand-rearing bottles on the way just in case. The next 24-48 hours will be crucial to their survival. Clare was awake to monitor them around the clock on Monday night and will be doing the same tonight. They're not giving up and neither will we! But, we need your help. Fagin's is a tiny independent rescue and recent vet bills and this little family's ongoing care has hit us hard financially. Greetings from Mr Bojangles who is wisely accepting the no outside time rule during today's 26/feels like 31 degrees temperature. Fans are on in every room & the Fagin's gang have fans, regular ice block changes & snacks of Lick-e-lix to keep cool.
Rik did the feed rounds yesterday as it was just too hot for me. 🥵🌡️
Clare is going to update at some point today about Saffy's kittens, sadly things are still not great.
We plod on.
