Many of you will remember my beautiful Millie 💛
Whether she walked alongside your dogs, welcomed them into our home during boarding, or simply popped up in countless photos over the years, she has always been such a huge part of my business and my life.
Yesterday, our world fell apart 💔
After weeks of trying to get to the bottom of a persistent limp, Millie was diagnosed with advanced osteosarcoma (bone cancer). The cancer has already spread, including to her lungs, and the damage to her leg is so severe that there is a significant risk of the bone fracturing.
With the guidance of our vet, and with the deepest love imaginable, myself and the kids have made the heartbreaking decision to let her go peacefully before this cruel disease takes that choice away from us. We expect to say our final goodbye tomorrow, Friday.
So many of you have loved Millie over the years. She wasn’t just my dog - she was the gentle soul who shared walks and car seats with your dogs, welcomed nervous boarders (albeit often with a deep bark or two), accepted endless cuddles and belly rubs, played a good game of tug with a select few of you, and reminded me every single day why I chose to work with animals in the first place.
Thank you for every kind word you’ve ever spoken about her, every fuss you gave her, and for allowing her to be part of your dogs’ lives. She has been loved far beyond the walls of our home, and I will always be grateful for that.
As heartbroken as we are, we know this is the greatest kindness we can now give her. Sometimes the final act of love is having the courage to put their peace before our own pain 🌈
No matter how long we’re lucky enough to have them, it is never long enough.
