A ride on the wild side 🐎🌿

Tucked away in breathtaking surroundings just a short drive from Cannich, Highland Trekking and Trail riding at Cougie offers an unforgettable way to experience the wild heart of the Highlands. Here, budding riders can saddle up for a guided pony trek through Glen Affric National Nature Reserve, where ancient Caledonian pinewoods, sweeping moorlands, and meandering tributaries create a landscape like no other.

For Iain Pocock, owner of Cougie, this land is more than just home — it’s a way of life. Having grown up on the croft, he has since raised his own family here and spends every day immersed in the landscape. He has also planted over 1000 willow, alder and aspen along riverbanks to support beavers, which he hopes will one day return to the area.

"Growing up surrounded by the wild beauty of Glen Affric, I’ve always felt a deep connection to the land. Every day out here is a reminder of how special this place is – the ancient forests, the wide-open moors, the wildlife that calls it home. Sharing that with others through our treks is a privilege."
