It’s officially moulting season for our furry felines! It can be hard work for long haired breeds and older cats to shed their winter coats efficiently which can lead to areas of matted and knotty fur! Feline Purrfect offers home visits to help de-shed winter coats and remove matts, starting from £30. Please get in touch for further information 🐱

Today, I visited lovely Smokey to do some grooming. Smokey is an absolutely gorgeous, young ragamuffin cat. She lives up to her breed stereotype of being super friendly and having a very thick coat! I visit her every couple of months to help Smokey and her owner maintain her beautiful coat - grooming out the dead furr and clipping out knots. She is always patient and very sweet, she often helpfully rolls over to allow me groom her tummy as you can see in the second photo ❤️

Sweet Pixie ❤️ I always enjoy taking care of Pixie whilst her mum is away. Pixie is 21 years old and I think she is doing amazingly well - she still has a lust for a life as you can see from the video of her trying to catch the little bit of grass I was moving around in her garden in the morning sunshine. She has so much character and always manages to let me know what she wants us to do during my visits with her ❤️

I do love so many pedigree cats. But I’d urge everyone to do their research on certain breeds. I find it heartbreaking that some breeds of both cats and dogs suffer so much due to the deformities that we like and find attractive that can cause them to struggle and suffer. This is an interesting read 💔

Please see our below position statement, as part of The Cat Group, on ‘Bully’ and ‘Dwelf’ cats.

The Cat Group is a collection of professional organisations dedicated to feline welfare through joint campaigns and collaborative research, making expert recommendations on the care and keeping of all cats.

The Cat Group is very concerned about the breeding and promotion of so-called ‘Bully’ or ‘Dwelf’ cats.
We are completely opposed to the breeding of cats with extreme physical characteristics that negatively impact on their welfare and quality of life.

‘Bully’ and ‘Dwelf’ cats suffer from physical deformities, including hairlessness and distorted limbs, among other defects. Breeding for deformity is unethical and causes unacceptable pain and suffering. These defects, particularly limb deformities (short, bowed legs) and abnormal joints are painful and restrict mobility, thus preventing these cats from carrying out normal behaviours essential for their welfare and their ability to live a good quality of life.

The Cat Group strongly urges breeders to cease breeding ‘Bully’ or ‘Dwelf’ cats. These cats should not be promoted in any way, for example through social media, or by their presence at cat shows.

We ask the public not to buy these cats under any circumstances; doing so is irresponsible as it promotes popularity and leads to more cats with these issues being born to suffer.

More information about the health issues affecting ‘Bully’ and ‘Dwelf’ cats is available on the iCatCare website

**SPECIAL OFFER** **£15 NAIL CLIP**

Offering low stress home visits to clip your cats nails for only £15 in September and October, this is a special offer for new clients ❤️

Cats often need regular nail clips as they age, you may notice their nails start to catch in bedding etc, sometimes nails can overgrow to the extent that they start to grow into their footpads which can be really sore and lead to infection so please do monitor the length of your cats nails - this is more common in elderly or indoor cats.

Please get in touch for further information 🐱

Lovely Peggy is one of my regular’s 🐱 I visit her every 8 weeks or so to trim her nails, keeping them in tip top condition! Older cats often need this doing to prevent nails over growing and potentially growing into their foot pads which can be very sore! Peggy is often a little bit nervous but we take it slowly, at her pace, she is always very well behaved and perfectly patient!

New legislation came into force this week saying all cats over the age of 20 weeks must be microchipped! It’s worth mentioning that this microchip must be kept up to date with your current contact details so vets etc can get in contact you if your cat is found straying or if they are injured or unwell 🐱

I’ve been taking care of this gorgeous girl (and her friend) recently - Winnie is the sweetest and most playful girl. I’ve loved chasing round the garden with her and watching her mid air acrobatic skills in some of the nicer weather we’ve had ❤️

Neutering is so important for their welfare ❤️
The Cats Protection League are currently running an offer to neuter and chip your cat for £10 if you qualify for the scheme 🐱

Did you know… ❓

Female cats can get pregnant at just 4 months old..

She can then get pregnant again just 8 weeks later.. in the mean time her kittens are already halfway to being able to breed..

She can be a great grandma at just 1 year old 😳

Tom (unneutered male) cats will force females to mate, fight with each other due to uncontrollable hormones, spread disease by biting during mating and fighting and generally live a bit of a miserable existence.
Would you want your unneutered male cat to force a 4 month old kitten to mate because he can’t control his hormones? By allowing them to roam this is the reality.. she then can die or get poorly during birth because she’s too small to have kittens herself 😿

None of the above sounds pleasant does it?
This is the reality rescues are facing, it’s a never ending battle so please do the right thing and neuter your pets.

Cats Protection offer £10 chipping and neutering scheme.

It is also just 90 days until microchipping your cats becomes law ‼️
