From the 18th March - Dogs (Protection Of Livestock) (Amendment) Act 2025 came into force in England and Wales introducing key changes to the law which include -
π Unlimited Fines: The previous maximum fine of Β£1,000 has been removed, allowing courts to issue unlimited fines.
π Wider Scope: The definition of livestock now explicitly includes camelids (alpacas/llamas) in addition to sheep, cattle, goats, pigs, horses, and poultry.
π Police Powers: Police can seize and detain dogs suspected of worrying livestock and enter premises to obtain DNA evidence.
π More Locations: The law applies to public footpaths, roads, and bridleways, not just private fields
Please ensure whilst walking near livestock regardless of how "friendly" or "well trained" your dog(s) are - keep them on lead at all times!
