π¦ββ¬ Baby birds out of the nest! π¦ββ¬
π¦ββ¬ During the spring and summer months, it's very common to find baby birds on the ground, if you find one, please keep your pets away and follow the advice below.
π¦ββ¬ Nestlings are baby birds that have few or no feathers, these won't survive long outside the protection of the nest, and where possible, nestlings should be re-nested and left in the wild, taking care not to disturb other nesting birds. The parents will likely continue to provide for their young.
If you cannot find the nest nearby you can recreate one for them, using something like a flowerpot and some warm material, then place this somewhere safe and close to where they were found.
π¦ββ¬ Fledglings have nearly all their feathers and leave the nest just before they can fly, so it's normal to see them on the ground.
DO NOT PICK THEM UP! The parents will be nearby and feeding them. If you feel they may come to harm in the spot they are in, it is OK to move them to somewhere safer if it is within close proximity of where you saw them so that their parents can still find them.
π¦ββ¬ Baby gulls leave the nest when they're a few days old and move to a 'safe' location nearby. Seagull parents will continue to feed the baby until they're five to six weeks old. Gulls only feed their babies a handful of times a day, so if it looks healthy and alert it's likely being fed by its parents.
π¦ββ¬ Please do not pick up baby birds and take them to the vet practice unless they are seriously injured.
