Well said Bite Work K9 Solutions.
ACT NOW
So sadly, the ban has been announced - by the end of this year the dangerous dogs list will be updated to include the XL Bully - this causes a few problems for the dog community on a whole.
1) the bully isn’t a recognised U.K. breed - this means we now have to deal with ‘Bully type classification’ which means even some of your other mastiffs and bullbreeds are on the line based upon what they ‘look’ like.
2) this opens the door to the government banning other breeds and my advice to every trainer is - SHUT YOUR DUMB ASS MOUTH - and stop highlighting other breeds that are ‘worse than Bully’s’ this isn’t a time to point score and alert the government to other innocent animals while the door is open to affect them!
This is an uncertain time for many bull breeds, mastiffs, bully’s and even other breeds.
This is what you can do as owners & trainers
1) train your dog and give it the best chance of success and survival you can by being a good representative of your breed.
2) start keeping records of your training in detail so should a court appearance arise you’ve given yourself the best chance of proving your dog deserves a shot
3) if you know someone who owns or is considering owing a dog they’re not capable of handling do everything you can to educate them on how people like them fail breeds - show them posts like mine!
What will happen? Based on past times this happened.
Dogs will need to be registered
Microchipped
Tattooed
Neutered/spayed
Never be off lead and muzzled in public
Insured
Not able to leave their home for more than 30 days a year.
This won’t be a death sentence - it’ll be more like waiting for the breed to die off over the course of a decade.
HOWEVER - restrictions will be placed upon your dogs life and will make it more susceptible to blame in the event of an incident even if another dog or person was truly to blame.
Time to shape up guys - I’ll do all I can to help the owners of wales and so will my fellow trainers but YOU the public need to change a lot of your archaic views on dog ownership!
